This... This is...
So annoying. I mean, I'm 16, and male, so I assume I'm the target audience right? I don't want to buy this game. Quite frankly, if I'm not going to be humourous, I'm insulted this is what they think I buy games for, or that they think this game will appeal to me, just because there is a scantely dressed woman on the advertisement? No no no.

I buy them for the VIOLENCE. :D

That's not even the worst or most "in your face" of it.

This is armor. ARMOR!
Well, hey. Even though it changes her armor rating by -3, it increases her distraction rating by 9001.

Not exactly related to the game, but I feel it's related to the general discussion at large.

Also, I support either everyone having practical clothing/armor, or men also running around in nothing but thongs and belts.

Or, if an MMO, just give us two clothing options. One for aesthetics, one for stats. So we can have all the stats and not look like a clown/stripper. Lord of the Rings Online does this, and I think all MMO's should do it.

I don't care if they're naked, nobody's asking for it unless they say the words, "Yes, please, I want it."

First off, the "Promo Image"..i like the eyes..and the lips and the lipstick..and the face in general, and the snake-armorish look..but where the fuck is her left arm? Or the left leg, either one is missing!..Also she's got a big rack but thats kinda beside the point.

Now to the good part though, i wouldnt personally mind if females get, you know, more eye-candy stuff to them, Armors not covering from head-to-toe is fine in my book IF there is a point to it. For example, lets take a piece of heavy armor, plate or something. On a male character it looks perfectly normal, covers everything that needs to be covered, you get a high Defense bonus for it and lose a bit of agility, on paper anyways, defense versus mobility. Now the females get the reverse, they get less cover, as such get bonus to mobility but less defense. Or better yet, give us a fucking toggle. Want to be all tanky? Get in that full-body metalsuit. Want to have eye-candy and not be tanky? Well just switch to stripperific metalsuit!

Problem could be solved easy, or at least they could have it make more sense than just showing off the goodies, because lets be honest, who's looking at it? Might be fun for like 10 minutes, then its old and you're just slapping weird monsters around anyway without paying attention to what your character looks like, same goes for people who might see you.

In short, i dont get the logic of having heavy platemail that covers barely anything be just as protective as the Guy's full body-covering variant of it. Doesnt cover everything? Well its less effective at being defensive but you can move easier, simple as that Devs, learn it already..and stop trying to cram porn into everything.

Captcha: stranger danger <---that is creepy..

I like my fair share of TNA, but there's a right time and a place for it. Tera's bikini armor is not the way to go.

On the other hand, going too far the other way can hurt the experience as well. For example in Skyrim I find it very implausible and distancing for the world to be that asexual. I mean, I don't find any women even remotely pleasing to look at even in the skimpiest, most suggestive outfits. They're just so flat and bland. It feels like the artists went out of their way to avoid even the slightest hint of sexiness because of the flak that *gasp* tits may cause. That's pretty bad in a game where you're supposed to lose yourself in the world and find it believable.

So I guess it's all good when it feels like a natural part of the game and it's world, not rubbing it in our faces every five minutes saying "look at those BOOBS you dirty perv, you know you like them".

OT: That's a bit of the ridiculous. I guess I just found a good reason to not give a flying turd about this game.
Fair enough if they were the only race in the game, a measure of a good game in my eyes is one that gives players choice. If players want to dress up as some demonic succubus lookin' thingies they can, if they want to play as a generic armored person dojur they can, if they want to play as a pubescent neko girl then we can just alert the authorities.

In all seriousness the day humanity isn't allowed to have any fun with sexuality is the day I use the 'I don't want to live on this planet anymore' meme. Buncha' narks.
To be fair, if anyone wants to dress their character like that, they can go for it, I really don't care. As for me, I think it's stupid mainly because the whole point in armor is to protect you from being murdered quickly and I think it's impractical, and not so much because of the whole sexuality thing. I just won't be playing it because of that.

Now, if the whole game entire game was like that and didn't take itself seriously at all, then I would be totally fine with it and I might play it.
On any day of the week I wouldn't call what they are wearing 'armor', I would however refer to it as a type of clothing (skimpy clothing, but clothing), as it's probably part of the races cultural. As I'm sure the topless women of National Geographic gave a shit that they weren't wearing anything to protect themselves against the elements.
All I'm saying is, it's a FANTASY game, I can suspend disbelief if they can explain that shit in a way that makes sense in that worlds lore. If I wanted the game world to apply to coloqial norms of reality I'd go back and play Skyrim or something. Personally I'm sick to death of all the JRR Tolkein-esc fantasies. If these Demoinc race of skimpy characters talked to trees I wouldn't want to touch it.

On your last point; I'd love to see a combination of Saints Row and Skyrim. You've got the fantasy jargon, but you can have crazy stupid fun with it.

I do realize it's a fantasy game and somethings like the armor has to be be taken along with that. However, they can explain it anyway they like with the game's lore, I'm still not gonna buy the game because I think it's stupid and it doesn't impress me. If it knocks the socks off of other people and they have no problem with it, cool, just not my bag.

Also, I'm having an imagine in my head of a warrior beating a dragon with a giant purple dildo, kinda funny.

I'm probably a wierdo but if im playing a game in a medieval setting or fantasy setting I think it's infinitley hotter if the woman is wearing full armor. See M&B for example ;)
But everyone in Mount and Blade has the polygon count of an early PS2 game! That is weird.

I approve of the ideas in the original post.

The only thing I love more than video games is TNA. Putting the two together is awesome. I understand this makes me a disgusting immature douche bag. I'm fine with that.
No, it makes you a dating sim fan. Nothing wrong with that. Go play your dating sims, have fun with it. Stack 'em up in a big pile and roll around in them for all I care.
That's the thing though, I find dating sims (and rape sims while we're on the subject) to be boring, awful affairs. I need my games to actually be, you know, a game. I just don't mind skimpy outfits and/or gratuitous nudity in my mainstream games. I actually like both!
So buy a split screen a run some porn on your left, and a game on the right. Boom. Problem solved, you can be fondling your nether regions while outsmarting a cloud of 1's and 0's.
You realise what you're saying is "I don't like it, so most people don't like it, stop liking what I don't like around me" right?

How about if you don't like it, you don't play it. Plenty of games out there that don't feature skimpy outfits.

Wait, wait, wait... That's serious promotional art? Do you see how she's holding that sword? I know I'm not the only one seeing that.

Wow.
CANNOT. UNSEE.

I am amazed that I managed to miss that.

[...] the promotional art looks like an unofficial sex parody of an MMO.
Are you serious?

When i first saw that artwork my first though was that this looks like a more elaborate version of SFW Porn (you know, these pics where a porn scene is cheaply MSPainted over, creating a non-adult context)

I mean look at it.
Her whole posture is taken from a porn 101.
1. She's bent over with her arse pointed up as if she was waiting for the next male actor to show up.
2. Her eyes are somewhat unfocused and looking off-screen, creating a longing look.
3. Her mouth is slightly opened as if she was about to moan (out of pleasure or craving).
4. The way she's holding the dagger [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GunInMyPocket] and the position she's holding it in.
Bonus Points for the winding snake thingy between her massive breasts.

I kinda expected the lingerire&bathrobe-clad elf in the background to hold a whip for additional fetish fuel, but caressing a really long staff aint that far off.
Also, she looks like they were doing this every other day.

I find it rather funny though that TERAs promotion almost exclusively shows female characters while male characters are actually wearing similar outfits ingame.

[sub]On a side note, are those hooves or just rather fantastic shoes?[/sub]

I'm fine with it. Kinda. I find it really annoying to use these things as your only way to market an otherwise really cool game just to get the douches who would play game just for this to buy it. Especially an MMO where interaction with said douches is pretty much unavoidable. Although if it's just there then cool whatever, they're boobs not the spawn of Satan.

Not a woman to start :p

I'm just a guy. A guy who does like boobs and games a lot, and finds it cool when these things meet. But I also understand that there is a time and place for everything.

And if the most reasonable woman you've ever met is actually a dude on the Internet I fear for our race, I truly do.

This is honestly the reason I don't give a shit about Tera. It can be as good as it wants - from where I'm sitting (which is uncomfortably when I see Tera promo images) they're pushing tits in my face because they don't think their gameplay will sell enough as it is.

I always thought that best solution was to have specific 'sexy' armour sets (For both males and females). If it's somewhat restricted, the contrast would surely make it more noticeable and more effective. In a crowd of fully dressed warriors, you're sure to raise an eye at the one scantily clad person. When the game world itself treats armour made up of a single shoe lace as appropriate warrior attire it just makes everything feel stupid. It's just so contrived that I find it hard to imagine anyone being interested in it for more than a moment.

Forcing it in seems more alienating and nonsensical than anything else. I imagine designing every costume like the pictures in the first post would deter players but I can't imagine that kind of look would actually do anything to draw anyone in. After all, its commonplace and you can get better/more explicit material for free on the internet.

I don't think sex appeal needs to be scrapped, but they need to be smart about how they use it. There are much less jarring ways to go about this.

Funny thing is from everything I have heard the actual gameplay is top notch. Also they might not actually be worried about that and instead just really like tits. This is an Asian mmo you know.
I know, that's the weird thing. Everything I've heard about it is good but it's just such a bad way of advertising (for my personal tastes) that it puts me off it. It focuses way too much on something that isn't a main reason for me to play the game, so it's just not memorable for me.
