Mario Kart Wii is the best racing game around. After playing it other racing games don't compare.
Hey, The Escapist staff? Could we get a voting system going in the forums? That would be great!

Also, Burnout 3: Takedown is pretty much completely awesome, even if you didn't like Paradise.
yeah , your right ... this sounds dumb but my favourite was and always will be Lego Racers for the PC.

The only racing game I ever play is Crash Team Racing. Nothing else compares.

That and Micro Maniacs, if anyone remembers that game they get a cookie made of gold!

F-Zero (and F-Zero GX) are awesome. Also, I actually enjoyed Kinetica on the PS2, despite everyone else apparently hating it.

I enjoy Split/Second, I just feel that it was a tad on the short end of the spectrum, the online is too easy to blaze through from rank 99 to rank 1, and the Detonator times are a bit obscene.

I remember having fun with burnout... however, not with the racing, more with the mini-game of "see how much damage you can cause". i remember on this one stage having to race inbetween normal moving traffic, go at high speed off a slight decline (acting as a ramp) and fly into 2 massive fuel-carrier trucks... and that was only to get like, 3rd high score!? i don't know which burnout that was, but that was an incredibly fun hour spent.

Racing games... i am quite fond of that wipeoutpure for PSP, though i haven't played it in years, nor do i know where the heck that game has gone. I guess i can't get into racing games that much if there aren't weapons to be used to outdo enemies... because there is only a limit to how fast you can go and how sharply you can take corners, and once you and your friends have mastered that (or have mastered it from a western gamers point of view), then racing friends is just going to be you all doing exactly the same thing at almost exactly the same time. Though i dislike how broken items are on games like mario kart, where i've been beaten by people who just picked up the controller that day due to it. But i still think they are much more fun!

Well, if your PS3 is backwards compatible, I'd say go try the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series. While the handling in each game is a little wonky, all are very addictive sim-cade racers that don't require an unhuman level of knowledge of cars in order to play (it helps, but it isn't required by any means).

Blur is a fantastic mix of Mario-Kart/Wipeout and your typical PGR/NFS style sim-cade racer, so that definitely sounds like something you'd want to play.

Need for Speed: Shift is indeed more of a sim than previous titles (which is how the series started, FYI), but unlike many modern serious sims there is enough arcadish-ness to make it a hell of a lot of fun IMO.

If you liked NFS: Most Wanted, NFS: Carbon is much of the same with less emphasis on police chases and a dash of touge mixed in. Rather underrated, in my opinion.

Ridge Racer 7 is a rather simplistic and fun arcade racer, especially if you want a game where you just race without any drifting competitions/drag races/time attacks/etc. getting in the way.

F-zero on the snes is a pretty kick-ass game. Remember playing that game ALOT of a kid, this is coming from someone who doesn't really like racing games (except Mario Kart).
My words, you took them from my mouth.

I love F-Zero, its a fun racing game with some literally INSANE tracks.

Big Blue comes to mind.

Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit. It's old, but it's so awesome. It doesn't have much customization, but I like the simplicity of the older Need for Speeds. I recommend getting it for the PC (I'm not exactly sure if one is better than the other, I just like the PC more), but I heard it doesn't run under 64-bit (like most old games), and while there may be a fix, you might just want to get the PS1 version.

I'll recommend TrackMania: Nations Forever, as it is pretty decent fun, and it's free on Steam.
