Just when you thought cops couldn't make any more unwise decisions than they already do... (better?)

its not the cops, its the person who CALLED the police thats the idiot. i think you'll find the police are obliged to check it out if someone reports it.

imagine that you walked by that guys house, youd laugh and keep walking faster. not stop and CALL THE SODDING POLICE.

It's not that people hate cops in general, it's just that sometimes they do stupid things.
like this. So I also count that strange woman as stupid and in the wrong.
5:30 am walk with a kid? Staring into people's windows? She's a little odd, to say the least...
I don't know, find a video of a cop not doing the perfectly correct thing on YouTube or something and you'll see all the cop hating comments. "Blah blah stupid pigs", "Blah blah must have been looking for donuts", "Blah blah cops suck" or any variations thereof. I just think it's unfair of people to act like cops are these horrible people all the time - there are bad cops but don't say cops are bad people. All the cops I've ever spoken to (Never due to being pulled over mind you) have been quite polite.

People get an attitude with police when they get pulled over or something and instantly you've changed the cop's method of dealing with you and then you wonder why they're so mean. People have the hardest time remembering that underneath the uniform the cops are normal people. They volunteer to endanger themselves to keep other people safe, not to make your life horrible or give you a ticket (I doubt seriously any aspiring kids who want to be a police officer want to do it so they can write up big tickets for other people). The basic point is, don't break the law and you'll never deal with a cop. While you might think doing 70-75 mph in a 55 mph is okay because other people are doing it and it seems fine, if it wasn't enforced then no one would go the speed limit and the roads would be terribly dangerous. People always ***** about other people speeding but it doesn't matter, if they pulled over a different speeding car they would say the same thing and the same thing applies - don't break the law and you can't be busted.

It just gets old seeing the same "Pigs" and other bad things say about some fine people. Kind of like bad mouthing the military or something, they fight to protect the nation so the last thing they need added on to their stresses are people at home saying they're good for nothing and bad people.

It's not necessarily the cop's fault. They wouldn't have taken action if the woman didn't report him, and they have to follow up on any reports that they get.

If you have to blame anyone, blame either the woman or the law.

Somehow I'm glad yet not really that my town's cops aren't like this, instead that are brutal motherfuckers who look for the slightest excuse to squeeze the trigger and treat eveyone as criminals.

Last month LAPD killed 8 people, TPD killed 14.
TPD?
There are at least 3 police departments, just in USA, who have the acronym TPD, Tampa, Tulsa and Tustin(http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/TPD). So, yeah, be more spesific.
OT: The cops are not the dumb party in this ,IMO, screwup. The stupidity lies with the woman that was taken seriously and the juicidal system. Who charges a man walking naked in HIS house?

I don't walk around at my house at 5:30 in the morning

What was a 7 year old kid doing looking through peoples windows at that time?
The article said that the dude lived with several other guys, she was probably sneaking around trying to catch the being 'homosexuals'. In other words, she's probably just a nutter that likes to drag her kid into it.

This is just retarded...

Who walks a 7 year old kid around at 5:30am looking into people's windows anyway? She should be arrested for voyeurism!
All it takes is one big bay window in the front and you can see it from the street.
No, they shouldn't be arrested for voyeurism.

As for the 5:30 am thing, I know lots of families up by then. Some go for runs and walks before school, others have to actually get up that early for school, or day care (If the mother works early). There are plenty of reasons for being up that early (it being early at all being rather subjective), so I don't consider that too odd.

Besides, I'm certain the cops would have asked 'What were you doing that early?'.
It's a pretty standard question.

And why the hell did the cops decide to arrest him for this...
Because the guy stood nude in plain sight of a child.
If I own a home and stand naked in front of my front windows so that people can see front the street, I'd be arrested too. Indecent exposure.

I really wish people would stop thinking the world revolves around them.
What does that have to do with anything?
The woman has every right to call the police and press charges.
Just like you would in a similar situation. If you wouldn't, well that's your choice.

And I hate the thread title. The cops are doing their jobs here.
Maybe the idiot shouldn't have been walking by big open windows buck-naked.
Its his own fucking home sure maybe he should have drawn the curtains or something but that is not the point a potential year in jail is that justified to you? A year is a long fucking time and for something like this?

Its a byproduct of this new culture where everything needs to be wrapped up to protect the kids big fuckin deal think the boys never going to see a wang in his lifetime? I saw naked dudes when I was a kid, changing rooms etc since when did even the mere sight of nudity warrent suspicions of voyeurism, the guy wanted people to see him how do they reach that fucking conclusion? In what way is that warrented or the best decision they could make? The guy did nothing probably walked past his window forgot it was not covered and some old woman staring at him freaked out, a year for that? And why is she looking at a dudes window, at half five in the morning you walk around here at that hour youll probably get stabbed.

I agree that this is ridiculous but I would not blame the police for it. They are just doing their job and when they receive a complaint they have to deal with it.

If someone needs to be blamed then blame the person who reported it for being on someone else's property at 5:30 in the morning.

At least change the title, it's worse than, say "Man goes to jail due to Peeking Tom(ette)"

Its just the invention of the internet. Cops were always doing stupid shit every now and again, but now we have the internet to publicize it all. Like a bunch of people said, you can't judge the entire community of law enforcement based on one or even a handful of events. I wasn't exactly thinking that cops couldn't get any dumber, so your blanket assumption that everyone shares this opinion is a little off-putting, but I digress.

I mean, you can be charged with indecent exposure in your own house, if you're walking around in front of open windows, and frankly, the time of day isn't relevant. If you want to walk around naked, stay away from open windows. Don't blame the cops who were just doing their job, blame the woman who reported him, or blame the law and try to have it changed.

i'm sure the guy will get off on the charge, this happened in Canada not too long ago. the guy was watching porn and well you get the picture and his neighbours called the cops on him and he got arrested. he got off on the charge because the only way they could see him was turning off their lights and staring really hard and it was ruled it violated his right to privacy

Oh, I agree with you whole-heartedly.
And by 'general', I meant that on this site they don't seem to be generally hated.

Heh, I might even join the police sometime. I'm old enough, don't have a record, and like to help people. I just need to find out how to apply and what the training and requirements are.

another job I thought of doing would be child protection. I love to help others and make them happy. I'd just love to be there to save those kids from abuse and mis-treatment...

meh, I'll think of any job that involves helping people.

Yeah, cause bashing people who have to deal with lots of people's shit and risk their lives should be criticized...I hope the cops never come for you people who bad mouth them all the time. It'd be hilarious if they had a list of all the people who said "The cops suck" or some such and they'd not help anyone who had. You'd sure think different if they weren't around...
Only by criticising, might better standards be obtained. We can't just sit back and let the Police make blatant errors, or become restricted by bureaucratic nonsense. Yes, they are ultimately the keepers of law and justice, but that doesn't make them immune from criticism, in fact quite the opposite.

Yes, this guy was being a tad stupid standing naked right next to a window in plain view of the public, but being arrested? That's just silly.

It seems like an honest, if slightly dumb, mistake. What I feel fairly certain of, is that this isn't any form of sexual deviancy or attempted paedophilia.

Sometimes bureaucracy really gets out of hand.

Watch the video on the link. The woman cut through his lawn for gods sake!

I stand by my title, the cops should have more common sense than this. When you put it all together I see zero reason for anyone to suspect he wanted to be seen by anyone. Maybe he should have pulled his blinds, but I think he made a safe bet considering how early it was.

If I called the cops because I was snooping around a womans house at 5 in the morning and saw her naked, they'd hang up. I'm almost convinced there's something sinister going on in that neighbourhood.

This was clearly only taken seriously because a kid was involved, so by all means the cops should have checked it out. But there's definately a lot to be said for arresting him and have prosecutors giving the go ahead, it's nonsense from where I'm standing.

The fuck you would.
You'd think "Wow, way to prove me right by not even bothering to come help."
And then you'd sue.
Zing!
Max makes a point. That would just further prove to the person that the cops are worthless.

Thats going to be a lesson for her not to look in peoples windows anymore. Seriously its his house, he is not hurting anyone by being but naked only if she took the effort to stare into his house. What does the woman expect if she looks into peoples houses seriously. I don't blaime the police i blaime the woman that is walking a child around at that time in the morning and its her fault for being nosy. When you put you poke your nose into places don't be surprised when you sniff something horrible.
edit: hold the phone she cut across his lawn, i'd prosicute for tresspassing and its her own damn fault if the child saw anything. Seriously its just rude to cut across someone front garden and expect then phone the police when you see them doing something in their own home seriously gah.

it's all about the town
in one town here the cops are bored and pull people over for speeding all the time
and in the next town over they're the ones speeding for the heck of it
