Justice League Unlimited: Why Was The Question Considered Insane By Fellow Heroes?

I love the DCAU, particularly the Justice League tv show and the Question became one of my favorite characters from that show. But one thing I could never understand is why the Question's theories were dismissed as the ranting of a crackpot conspiracy theorist. I mean, the guy lives in a world were things like aliens, gods, sorcerers, plant people and talking apes are real and very much public knowledge. And the heroes are aware there's a government faction conspiring against them. Why would anything the Question says be considered stranger than what already exists in the DCAU?

Probably because the Question's theories seem to be completely unrelated, yet he insists they're all part of the same conspiracy. One moment he's worrying about Lex Luthor's impending election, the next he's breaking into Baskin Robbins looking for undocumented ice cream flavors. Ancient Egyptians, global warming, flouride, coffee bars, boy bands...they're all connected. Even by DCAU standards, that's quite a stretch.

My understanding from when I watched the Justice League was that he is crazy, but its his ability to see things from outside the box that lets him find the real plots where others wouldn't.

But yeah your right, he has a track record of being right otherwise he wouldn't be there so the other heroes should pay attention to him but I guess its hard to filter what is his crazy side projects and what really needs the Justice League's attention.

This is also a world where the Greek gods are proven to be undeniably real yet Abrahamic faiths are still in existence. Heck, this is a world where Superman has helped Santa Clause then later on Green Lantern has to tell Larfleeze Santa isn't real.

The trouble with Question was he thought almost everything was part of an overarching conspiracy. Remember, "The plastic tips at the ends of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister."

Simple, the Justice League main cast (Superman, Batman etc) were all be god well god like powers but they are still human at the end of the day as in we dismiss some conspircy theories out there!

He claims (Who knows, maybe he's just throwing crap around to confuse people) that the Girl Scouts are evil, shoe laces are sinister, and a variety of other bonkers things. And there's a fundamental difference between 'Some of the old pantheons are real, weird' and 'That kids organization your daughters in is evil.'

Who hasn't been possessed by a yellow space bug that encompassed the concept of power of fear? I just passed that last week...or maybe that was a kidney stone...

OT: I think its been stated that they had massive creative freedom on the Justice League and Unlimited series and essentially had Carte Blanche on anything they wanted to do with characters, especially secondary or lesser known characters. So I'm pretty sure they were like, "lets make the Question batshit insane, but he's totally right about his big conspiracy thing, because its funny."

To be honest I'm kind of with Mr. Terrific on the whole situation. He and Ragman once were discussing that whole thing, Ragman's cloak basically containing evil souls and him being Jewish while Mr. Terrific sees the concept of a god in a world where beings like Superman exist to be kinda silly to build a religion around because they're too common an occurrence to be considered an actual deity. Even had an explanation as to how an afterlife would work with character resurrection being so common.

Besides, we all know the writers are the real gods of the DCU. Superboy Prime burst into their office once and demanded they stop messing with him.

Just because someone is right doesn't mean they aren't insane. Currently playing through The Banner Saga, and Banner Saga 2, and Tryggvi is clearly nuts--but he also knows his stuff. Same can be said with the crazy scientist you meet in the very beginning of Mass Effect. He basically tells you the entire story, but he's still completely mental.

The Question does have good points. He does see things that others miss. But he's also insane. Being that smart, learning just how much the world is broken, and how everything always seems to be on the brink of destruction, will break a normal human mind.
Plus, even if he's not crazy--if it really is him just being normal--you have to honestly ask yourself: would you want to hang around someone who was constantly telling you how the slice of pizza you're about to eat is filled with secret alien bacteria that is going to turn you in a corn person? Of course not. Even if you believe what the guy is saying, it'd get annoying and just downright weird after a while, and you'd start to doubt his sanity.
