I'm sure this has happened to all of us. You'll be playing with people and they are the worst players ever. And you're getting fed up with it. So what do you do? You tell them they need to shape up. They respond with "ITS JUST A GAME I DON'T HAVE TO BE SMART!" or something along those lines. Does it being a game justify them being complete morons? Are there any good reasons to be absolutely terrible at a game? or to be an idiot while playing them?

...Does this infuriate anyone else? <.<

They're not playing to win. They're just playing for fun and don't give a damn.

Nothing wrong with that. Its happened to me before, and I either join them in their silliness or just ignore them.

sounds like you're the one with the problem. If you're more interested in playing GOOD than playing with you're friends to the oint were you're calling them on it then go play by your goddamn self

What irritates me is my friend's friend was trolling/cheating/bug abusing on Xbox Live and I report him and he gets banned. When he gets unbanned him and all my former friends blame me saying I'm the jerk for reporting him. Well, sorry I'm trying to make Xbox Live a better place.

No. No it doesn't. I suck VERY BADLY at most RTS games, but they're fun so I play them. Anyone who called me out for being bad at them and telling to get better or don't play would get blacklisted immediately.

Its the same with me.

I love RTS's so much. Playing on my own I feel like I'm good. But when I go online I for some reason end up playing like a monkey. Actually a monkey could probably play better then me online...

But still, I just find it fun and keep playing.

Um...I'm pretty sure they aren't being bad at the game on purpose, they're probably doing their best.

This seems like common sense to me, am I missing something?

Well I don't play games online, but are you talking about people being intentionally bad or just people who aren't as good at the game as you? 'Cause if it's the latter, they can't exactly help it, but if it's the former, no there's no excuse for that.

I don't like playing the elitism card on other players. You have no idea how long they've been playing or how old they are. One asshole who wants to win an ultimately arbitrary game can ruin gaming as a passtime for someone just starting out.

You've obviously never encountered someone who refuses to play Infestation on AvP after they've respawned as a Xenomorph.

"It's just a game" is a perfectly fine excuse. If someone has fun playing their way and not doing well, then it is your job to deal with that. That applies even when they are on a team with you (there's probably someone like that on the other team, anyway). There are times in Team Fortress 2 where I just want to go melee only and not even necessarily as the Demoman (though that is most fun). I suck at melee combat in the game, but it's fun.

You can argue that people should contribute as much as they can, but they really have no obligation to do so (unless an admin says otherwise).

I don't mind if people are bad, but I do care if people start complaining that they don't know the bare basics of the game ESPECIALLY if there was a tutorial for them. Don't start stating how good you are at the game either and then trying to justify why you're doing so bad. You can also enjoy the game if you want, but don't start telling us that we shouldn't try to win.

C'mon. Online, I don't know, I avoid it like the plague. But with friends, even when they suck? Playing as well as trash-talking is all in good fun. They're games, not life. Sucking at Halo won't kill anyone.

Not really. My firends and i adjust to peoples skills that are lower then ours (giving them more time, letting them have a few kills on us so they can raise some confidence), things like that. If we're lower then another players level, we'll tell them and also tell them if they get on a high horse, even if its in teams, we'll gang up onthem and put them in their place.

Games are games. Thats why i like playing on old servers. all those people who are "serious" players, are usually gone, or not as numerous.

I was totally expecting a moral debate on the stereotypes of good and evil.

Anyway, some people just suck. I have pretty bad reflexes: I'll probably never make it out of SCII's bronze league, and I can't hold a candle to to competetion in a CSs match. Does that mean I'll stop playing? no. And it's terribly wrong to think that just because I might be letting the team down that I shouldn't play. If they're screwing around and not doing what they're supposed, that's fine too, it's all just for fun. Now on a competitive/serious server, marked as such, they should be kicked or banned for that, but on some random one, let them do want they want.

And on matchmaking, well it sucks that the game you're playing is using a shitty system, but then I'd still say you shouldn't get mad at someone for doing what they want, and having fun in their own way. So, you might be super-competitive, and feel let down that your team sucks and you're losing, but that's too bad. Those "losers" are having more fun than you are.

there's a line to draw here. if it's a cooperative online game, such as an MMO or a team-based shooter, idiots can be a real problem. however, there are degrees of acceptability even there. if they are flat-out acting like idiots (meleeing healers, tanks who never taunt, dps getting out-dpsed by healers; or in the case of shooters, team-killing or sandbagging) then i have zero tolerance. but if they're just "not as good as me" that doesn't bug me much. we were all n00bs once.

Unless I'm playing in a tournament for a million dollars, I don't care if one guy one my team isn't doing very good.

Several reasons:

a) I have nothing on the line.
b) My enjoyment isn't significantly affected by victory or defeat.
c) He payed the same money I did for the game.
d) It's a fucking game.
e) The performance of one or two players won't significantly affect the match, unless the teams are really small.
f) Unless my K/D is 400 and I've never lost a game, they probably aren't significantly worse than me.
g) Their internet may be poor (mine lags constantly).
h) They may just be having a bad round.
