Justin Bieber doesn't know what 'German' means.

Recently, Justin Bieber was interviewed on a New Zealand television show. He made a fool of himself.


" 'Bieber' is German for 'Basketball'. True or False."

Perhaps the wording is a bit dodgy... the interviewer should have rephrased the question a little so to not make 'German' so ambiguous in its grammatical function.

But mostly i think this is just seriously stupid on Bieber's part. IMO, after repeating the word and reading it on the card it should have clicked.

He even says after reading it, "We don't say that in America".

But what do fellow Escapists think? Stupidity? Or an excusable mistake?

He backed this up by linking a video on Twitter of an earlier interview in which he counted in German and translated his name.

He read the card and everything. He has no excuse.

I tend to agree with this. However he was pretty surprising since...well I had no idea that he was a he the first time I heard him. I thought it was a girl singing. And now he's been really annoying. However I do feel this video a little...well I have to say it doesn't seem extremely realistic that he wouldn't know what German is.
