Yes, yes, that's nice and all but can we please have a developer actually USE this fucking engine? I've been wanting to see a big studio use the engine for AGES. So far the best looking, full game we've gotten out of it is DAYLIGHT and that's... not saying much. I know Gears of War 4 is coming out soon though, and I could really care less for GoW but it is kinda cool someones actually using it...
THIS! SO MUCH THIS!

I remember when Rage came out with the ID Tech 5 engine... and I just wished Zenimax had actually done something with it...

It was a beautiful engine for it's time, just a shame nothing used it...

They really need to remove or change the default camera blur, bloom, eye adaption and HDR settings.

I must be in the minority, because it looks like any other unstylized 3D game town to me
Well, the idea is that you're comparing it to the blocky polygonal graphics on the N64.

Ha, funny stuff, really. Here is a guy who throws together some standard assets of the Unreal 4 Engine to kind of look like an old classic Zelda level and there are people ranting on the engine because of this one person's hobbyproject and comparing it to stuff actual developers do for actual games, you all are the best, really.

Honestly it's a shame that ZeniMax has put the clamp down on ID in general. I had high hopes seeing how open and mod friendly Bethesda's games were, but NOPE they decided ID Software has to be fully in house with no modding capabilities now. It's not like ID Software DEFINED THE ENTIRE GODDAMN MODDING SCENE or have a game that has HUNDREDS OF MODS RELEASED FOR IT EVEN 22 GODDAMN YEARS LATER. >_> Ugh. Plus, apparently we have to remake Doom again, because remaking it once wasn't enough. C'mon guys, I've been wanting to see Hell on Earth with genuine artist friendly technology for eons now. =( (Ehh at least Doom 4 still looks fun.) Sorry, I'm a huge ID Fangirl and need to shut up now.

This video is lacking things that could made it feel authentic. For example, Link wasn't rolling through the entire town yelling "haa"... and there were pots not being smashed...

Better luck next time.

There's something very, very off with this. I can't place it. Maybe the motion blur? Maybe the original low res graphics complimented the art style and pulled it together into something iconic. Or maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia.
I think it's the lack of constant rolling, personally.

It's very pretty, and it is moving to see this be made.

What I think makes people's back hair stir is the lack of the NPCs in the village. When you arrive in Kakariko in the original game, the charm of the place is that there are people in it who stand around, bantering, doing farm work, and so on. It has a small town vibe that suits the music, which is itself meant to invoke a quaint, peaceful vibe. Having that town empty of NPCs, with the music still on, is why it feels more like a pretty picture without the details - so much more lacking.

With that said, other people have very rightly pointed out that you shouldn't expect that level of detail in this guy's design project. It's nice that someone made this. If they or someone else could go ahead and add the NPCs and the functionality of the Cuccos and puzzles, this version of Kakariko would be just as charming in my opinion.

Now obviously, there is also a lack of "art design" in this design, because it's made to look generically pretty. You can't expect the same quality of art design as a AAA game from someone who's just learning the technical mechanics - that's why game companies hire an art director, sometimes entire teams of people do that job and ensure that every detail creates the right atmosphere.

My personal favourite thing in the video is actually the Death Mountain model. It really makes the mountain as impressive as (I think) it should be, considering its destructive potential.
