There are really no words I feel that I can adequately use to voice my disgust for this woman...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1177990/U-S-woman-poses-magnificent-elephant-downed-bow-arrow-left-die-overnight.html

[quote/]A woman hunter clutches a bow and grins as she poses next to the body of an elephant she has killed with a single arrow.

In a scene that will sicken animal lovers and anti-hunting groups, proud Teressa Groenewald-Hagerman stands over her kill after becoming the first woman to kill an elephant in such a manner.

The 39-year-old, from Kansas in the U.S. travelled to troubled Zimbabwe where she could hunt the creature legally.

She shot the creature then left it to die overnight before plucking up the courage to approach the carcasse.

After creeping up on the herd she drew back the bow and fired the arrow into her target - from just 12 yards away.

The injured creature staggered 500 yards, leaving a bloody trail, before crashing to the ground.

The sick image of her so-called 'achievement' was posted on the internet, where Ms Groenewald-Hagerman boasted of her hunting exploits.

She said she had worked out for four hours a day for eight months in order to be able to fire the weapon with enough force to bring it down during the 2007 trip.

She describes leaving the animal overnight lying on its side before returning to check it was actually dead the next day.

On the website 'Hunts of a Lifetime' Ms Hagerman wrote: 'A man by the name of Larry, who is a videographer for Orion Multi Media, bet me I couldn't shoot a buffalo or elephant with a bow.

'He indicated only one or two women had completed the buffalo with a bow and no woman had ever taken an elephant with a bow. Of course, I couldn't turn down the challenge.'

On another site she added: 'The bow was awesome. I think it fit me well. I couldn't wait to get my elephant..

On the moment of the slaughter, which happened near Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe, she added: 'I shot the elephant at 12 yards with one arrow. It was shot near dark.

'We went back the next day and found him. I was in the middle of 37 elephants when I took my shot. This was my first bow kill and first woman to take an ele with a bow.'

One blogger on texasbowhunter.com described her as: 'Stunning looking, and an avid hunter.'

Another admiring blogger called BO-N-ARO wrote: 'That has to be one of the best examples of setting a goal and working hard to achieve it.'

Hagerman's trip was paid for by several sponsors including the bow company, PSE, and Foxy Huntress, a company that makes hunting clothing for women.

Hunting elephants for sport is legal in some parts of Africa and many tour companies allow tourists to visit on organised hunting trips.

Tour operators and hunters argue that elephants get out of control when not properly culled and can destroy crops and small buildings in rural villages.

Ms Groenewald-Hagerman was not available for comment.[/quote]

While it is a terrible shame the way she killed it, it is no less an impressive achievement. I'm sure that the media sh*tstorm will hit soon.

What a sick and disgusting women... There was no reason for such a creature to die... Why the hell would you kill a goddamn elephant.... And before someone gets on my case, and elephant that is probably endangered for that matter is different in my mind than some run of the mill deer

I don't get what the problem with it is. I wouldn't have left the body alone overnight, but other than that I don't see an issue with hunting elephants. Especially since it was legal.

Edit: This assumes the corpse will be used for something. Leaving it there afterwards is a bit retarded and a rather large waste.

While I find it sick, I should probably point this out:
Tour operators and hunters argue that elephants get out of control when not properly culled and can destroy crops and small buildings in rural villages.

Too bad it died.
But hey, great shot. But why did your semi retarded self leave it out overnight to bleed and die?

Disgusting. That's the only word for this. She can hardly claim SHE was the one that killed it. Time killed that elephant, she left the poor thing overnight for god's sake!

However I wouldn't be any more impressed if she had killed it instantly. There's no reason for shit like this to be happening...Once again I've lost still more faith in humanity.

I need to go work of this frustration, excuse me...

That's fucked up.

Who the hell goes up and shots an elephant just to settle a freaking bet? What's worse is that she didn't even have the deceny to finish it off. She just left it to die a slow painful death.

I wouldn't have minded so much if she was doing it to feed herself or use the bones for something.

But she just came out of no-where and killed it for the most pettiest reason of all. . .Fame.

I can't believe it's okay for her to let it bleed out overnight. and I hope she used the elephant for something other than just a trophy. I mean yeah she did work for a goal and showed obvious commitment and that's great but that is just awful in everyway to me.

I have to wonder though, what else could the lady do besides leave it to die? I'm seriously asking, what could she do?

Though I don't support nor condone hunting, shooting an elephant seems a bit on the extreme side...

Most animals shot with a bow bleed out. There is nothing remarkable about that. It takes real guts to shoot one from 12 yards, it could have trampled her easily before it died.

I think if I were to kill an unsuspecting elephant from 12 yards away, I would have done it with a crossbow. However, I would be very liberal with the definition of "crossbow" in this case. For example, a small ballista would also be a fit. In fact, if they were not so difficult to find now a days, I think that would be my first weapon of choice.

As a side note, I do not see how this is any different from typical hunting. Animals often live for anywhere from minutes to hours after being shot. So, I suppose my point is that I don't think this is especially cruel, it is a hunting story but instead it has an elephant rather than say a deer.

If the elephant was being culled, then it should have been shot humanely and quickly.

I have no problem hunting for survival, or killing for food. but to hunt for sport, i just don't see the "sport".

leaving it to die all night from its wound, absolutely disgusting. Why didn't she shoot it with a rifle or something after she had hit it with an arrow?

If there is any justice in the world she will get stabbed and left to die a slow agonizing death down some dark alley, and reflect on the day she posed for that photo.

I really don't see what the problem is. Are elephants in some danger of extinction? I find this event impressive.
