I had a test last,and I didn't study soooo I cheated and Im not shure what im gonna get(I never cheated,until now!)and for some reason I acted all nice and didn't swear,because I thought that Karma was gonna bite me in the ass...So what do you think?Will it,or will it not that is the question(and is karma real,lol)I will edit what I got!

Karma is as real as your paranoia wants it to be. It's all got to do with your state of mind. If you believe that bad things will happen then every bad thing that happens you'll be like 'oh my god it's because of that test oh my god'.

I suppose you want a longer answer. For karma to be real some fundamental things we know about the universe couldn't be true.

However don't discount how what you think changes how you act, even without thinking about it. Take smiling. More often then you think simply smiling is enough to make you happy.

So no, karma as a universal balancing force can't be real, but you thinking you deserve some divine punishment might be enough to make it happen, or make you look for anything and interperate it that way.

Karma is one of these great religious rip offs that seem to prove themselves, but in the end come down to statistics.

Let's look at that slightly mathy:

- Most people see more events in their lives or more results of situations as negative than they do as positive. No-Having-Cancer isn't recieved as a good thing, when you have a cold.

o, the propability for an event X to be classified as negative is higher than the one it being classified as poisitve.

- Most humans act like a jerk every now and then. We are flawed, it is bound to happen some time. Even if we are not aware of the nature of our behavior.

Now comes the punshline. Due to the fact that karma has no time limit, it becomse hokum. Since when you give karma an infinite time after your jerkyness to react, then something bad will happen to you. (See the first point).

If you then attribute said bad thing to karma, you have not only created a corelation where there isn't one (no clear timeframe) but also created a cause-and-effect-relation upon that bad corelation.

Karma is just bad science.

Not in one lifetime, no. If you believe that you'll be reincarnated, and face the consequences then, perhaps. Though, the consequences seem to be in the form of other people being nasty for no real reason, who will be punished next time round...seems a bit pointless.

The idea of karma is comforting, but doesn't hold up to any sort of scrutiny.

If someone that evil can get away with something as atrocious, there simply cannot be a concept of karma.

Be a nice person because everyone around you will appreciate it and you will be respected more as a human. Don't do it for any other ulterior motive.

If you do something genuinely evil, chances are someone will find out and try to punish you for it, or you'll be panicking over how it will come back to bite you and you'll walk straight into more trouble. Karma itself is not a force, it's an idea given to us by the tendency for bad things to happen to some not-so-good people.

Karma, in the real world, is more of a rule-of-thumb than a natural law.

.If you do "good" things, like help others, be generally agreeable, work hard, and avoid causing trouble, things will work out positively for you most of the time.

In contrast, if you hurt others, are disagreeable, lazy, or cause trouble for no good reason, things probably aren't going to work out so well for you most of the time.

These effects are a byproduct of human social systems. We are all dependent upon each other, and have to cooperate to survive. THAT is a natural law. The more often you cooperate, the more people will cooperate with you, and the better you do in the long-term. Cheating others might get you sizable benefits in the short-term, but will usually harm you in the long-term.

Of course, there are exceptions. There are innocent people who are wrongly convicted of crimes and are sentenced to long prison terms. There are rapists and murderers who are never caught, or have the resources necessary to game the system and avoid punishment for their crimes. Wall Street executives are able to steal millions of dollars by defrauding investors and live the rest of their lives in luxury. Public school teachers, who have some of the hardest jobs in the developed world, are almost universally underpaid and are subjected to almost prohibitive budget restrictions and moronic performance metrics.

Of course, if you believe in reincarnation, an evil person who gets away with their crimes in their present life will be punished in a future life, and a good person who struggles in their present life will be rewarded in a future life. Such metaphysical concepts are a matter of personal belief, but if you look at observable reality, you can't say that karma is a law of any sort.

I cannot speak for him, or comment on what video may have been watched, but I agree with what he wrote.

Things you do have consequences. These consequences may be negative, if your action is negative. It is not a cosmic force, it is simply a series of social reactions to your actions, or self inflicted harm.

For instance, as has been pointed out so many times in this thread: If you act like a dick, it is likely that you will receive a negative response. You might find that the guy you screwed over last week, won't help you with that project you need done now. It's not cosmic or divine, it's just a consequence of your action.
To make another example... You may have been a murderer and rapist who targeted children. You are caught, thrown in jail, and in jail, some other inmates kill you. Again, not cosmic balance, just criminals understandably discusted by your crime.
And these are just the very visible/obvious examples. In any social interaction, a million small variables determine how we act towards eachother, most of them actually unconscious. You may project guilt of some hidden lie, or someone may rightfully suspect you of something. Their treatment of you will be determined by your previous actions, even if they have no proof for them.
I think that is what the poster meant. Actions have consequences.
