If you do something genuinely evil, chances are someone will find out and try to punish you for it, or you'll be panicking over how it will come back to bite you and you'll walk straight into more trouble. Karma itself is not a force, it's an idea given to us by the tendency for bad things to happen to some not-so-good people.
Bad things, more often than not, happen to the best people.

Which I didn't bring up because it is the anti-karma. I was saying that karma is an illusion that we use to explain perfectly natural cause-and-effect.

Every ethereal force exists to everyone who believe in it. So if you believe in it and think it'll bite your ass - it probobly will.

I believe the only force/magic/whateverthehellelseyouwanttocallsomethinglikethis is willpower.

I've had this proven to me many times. I've spent a lot of time making certain discisions and just waiting to see how it will effect everyhing and I've come to the conclusion that shit just happens sometimes and you can't do anything about it, but there's nothing wrong with that - it's just the way things are.

I think this question is asked by all people who have or play games in which one descision might affect the rest of the game.

The interesting thing in life is that whatever you do you'll always do something bad or good along with it. The two are like an oreo cookie - you are the cream and they are glued to you like horny jailbait. Even if you've cheted it's good in one prespective and bad in another, right? Well give it some thought and you'll see that it's like that for everything else you do.

With one wink we might be just destroyers of worlds... it's possible and quite hard to comprehend, but it's reality. ^^

With morality like mine (or a severe lack of it) I should be in a bedside hospital in agonizing pain somewhere in a poor country where everyone seems to hate you.

On a more wide-spread note, karma happens to those who do something wrong and people catch them and prove it. E.g. the law. If there was some higher force like karma protecting us we'd be fine but usually things go wrong in the first place because something bad happened to someone and then they get angry etc and hence the bad things they do isn't there fault and it's all very complicated.

Basically the only thing you've got to worry about in cheating on a test is your pride and if you've already cheated then you probably don't care about that so much - no offense intended. Just don't worry about the mystical force of karma biting you in the butt because if you don't get caught then you're pretty much scot free. Why do you think there's so much crime in the world?

In a sense, yes. If you're nice to someone, odds are, they're going to be nice back but if you're an ass, then you're going to be treated like one.

However, if you do something good for someone else, don't expect the universe just to suddenly shine upon you.

In the sense of people being nice to others in return for being nice, then yes, that's Karma but simply getting punished for doing something you probably shouldn't have by fate alone, no. This universe doesn't give a fuck if you cheated on a test or if you killed someone.

If you are nice to people, they might be more inclined to be nice to you. But there's no such thing as a supernatural force that punishes you if you're not.

Karma is only real in the sense that you believe it is real, and thus it affects your perception. I.e You feel you deserve something bad happening to you, and when it does, you percieve it as Karma.

I think the common ups and downs of life are often mistaken as Karma, when someone who wrongs you suddenly has a bad day the next week it's probably just life as usual.

Essentially, whether or not you believe in Karma is a question of whether or not you're a Buddhist.

Or you could be talking about the crappy pop culture Karma, in which case I can give a definite no, without offending anyone.

Not real, but the concept can be used as a (loose) guide in your life to excel morally.

Be a nice person because everyone around you will appreciate it and you will be respected more as a human. Don't do it for any other ulterior motive.
Surely that's equally as selfish as doing it for 'karma'.

OT: I think it's the most clear cut cultural superstition we have, nothing more.

Yes, first you'll start losing hair, then your fingernails will detach. Then whole body parts will fall off, piece by piece. Off.

I have a friend who is probably the most unluckiest guy on the planet. Ironically his last name is Murphy. If Karma is real....I don't want to know what he's done to reap that upon himself *tries not to think about it*

To all the people who have basically said: "No", I ask: "Can you prove that?"

Karma is a belief. Just like Religion. It is, for many, a religion itself. So no-one can prove whether or not it is Real. If you believe in it, then it is real. If you don't, then it is arbitrary and silly. It's the exact same thing as God and Heaven and all that shit.....

OT: I believe in Karma, yes.

Yes karma is real, though not in a universe balances itself out kinda way. It's called causal chains
and the theory is based on the principle "if you are friendly towards people they are friendly towards you" but on a larger scale, envision a cloth spanned across a room if now someone does evil deeds^^ or gets bad karma then it's like you put a small stone on cloth just heavy enough to cause a dent. Now when you put a small stone near the other stone it might roll/slide to it if the dent is steep enough^^ it's like that with karma people who do bad things will interact with bad people so the chance of bad things happenning to them will rise

simple causality

Karma seems to only really apply to me when I game with 1 friend in particular. Like once we were playing Left 4 Dead 2 and were approaching the safe room, other 2 teammates died and she got downed about 100m away from the red door so I set off the alarm car that was close to her so that the zombies would go to her instead of me. I get to the safe room door then lag glitched past it and reawoke from the lag surrounded by zombies. Had to restart the level. I've been forced to be nice to her in game since this kinda shit keeps happening when I'm not (she likes to believe that God and her have an understanding)
