I guess other people's concepts for games seem dull compared to this guy's.

A fat, mustachioed plumber that stomps on turtles is no match for a ball that rolls up objects and grows to roll up bigger objects.

No match.

I'm not really a fan of his games though. I'm all for originality. But original shit is still just shit..

That's a bit harsh. But my point is that I think his games are just different for the sake of being different. I don't get the feeling of any actual inovation behind his stuff. Just more batshit crazy stuff.
The Katamari games are addicting for some strange reason.

He has noticed those things for the gimmicks that they are, can't say I blame him for not wanting to be part of that.

Well yes, HE would think the future looks dull, but after playing Katamari games I'm pretty sure he'd need to be on acid 24/7 to be not bored.

Yeah he does have a point.

The big developers just seem to stick to the same ideas, and then make lots of money.

A smaller company might try something unique, do it well ,but it will still fail as people are still following the big trends, so they get no recognition.

What we need is a ROYAL RAINBOW!

Aside from the 3DS, 3D gaming may be somewhat far off, and motion gaming probably won't change anything until core developers find a use for it, but Takahashi might be a little too negative on the future of the industry, as those new technologies won't create a barrier for the creation of great games.
I don't think he's saying that. I agree with him, the issue with all these new technologies is that they only change how you interact with the game, or how you see the game, they don't change a thing about the games themselves, the systems and concepts underneath the pretty exteriors. Katamari was a game that nobody had ever seen before, and it would have worked just fine on an NES controller. I think Takahashi wants new and interesting gameplay, and I mean gameplay, not controls.

Well, I think if anyone can call anything dull in comparison it is the creators of Katamari...I do agree though, I dont want 3D to be the next big thing...Holograms! Now thats what I want!

What I found boring at E3 this year wasn't motion control or 3D but the 26 similar looking shooters coming down the tube.

I think I can see where Keita Takahashi is coming from. His designs are based on uniqueness. 3D and motion controls are shallow gimmicks that are trying to make the whole industry look like its unique.

Hardware is a boring subject compared to games software. I think that Katamari Damacy, for example, is a game that could benefit from 3D but if the new hardware is just another excuse for a repackaging of that game instead of a fresher title then it would be dull compared to a fresh idea on older hardware.

You know, as much as I hate the PSMove, and all the people who laughed at motion controls and are all over them now that they're on their favorite consoles, it is now very possible to create some incredibly awesome and unique exclusives on the PS3, which is more than could be said for the console beforehand (The same could be said of the 360 and Kinect). Anybody who's played an FPS with (good) motion controls can tell you that it feels good and is (unless your some kind of god of the dual stick) much easier than the standard FPS (Prime3 is the only one I've ever played). Think of how much RTS games will improve on the console, as well as any games like FF which have you going through menus for a large portion of the game. As for 3d, I absolutely cannot wait for the 3DS. I don't own a PS3, and I still play video games on a non HD TV, so 3d in my house seemed like it was years and years away. My only digital 3d experience was Toy Story 3, and I'm relatively sure it was a total improvement over 2d. There was no novelty- it just brought the world to life in a way that I'd never seen before, and I believe that it will improve video games much more than movies. Now that 3d in gaming has become a near future reality to me on a powerful Nintendo handheld with a shit ton of awesome games lined up, I'm finding myself very excited about at least the next couple of years of gaming. I don't think it's just because I'm a Nintendo fan.....

Metoid: Other M, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Skyward Sword, OOT 3DS, Starfox 64 3DS, Paper Mario 3DS, Mario Kart 3DS, My first metal gear game ever 3DS.....O and Gears3

Eh, I take the approach of "whatever happens, happens" Nowadays, yeah, games don't really seem to be all that unique from each other at the moment.

However, on the topic of 3D in games, I'll ask this before everyone jumps up the "we hate 3D!" bandwagon;

[HEADING=2]Have any of you played a 3D game? You cannot base 3D's gimmickery on 3D films, you cannot interchange them, they don't even use the same 3D technology[/HEADING]

3D has much more potential in games than in movies, I've played WipeoutHD in 3D on my friend's TV and it was practically a whole new game. And while I do agree that motion controls are getting old right now, there's always room for improvement, and frankly they are barely being implemented on the Wii as is. It will be interesting to see how the Move/Kinect will work out the motion control kinks since, honestly, the Wii's current motion controls are terrible even with the Motion+ (making it do what it was supposed to do after a whole year.)

Overall, though, I'm slightly optimistic with a heavy side of caution. It'll be interesting to see how games go with 3D/Motion controls since they're all the rage now.
