The dress is about the same as in any Disney cartoon. What I'm more bothered by is why they're having celebrities appear on kids shows. Not that they're all depraved but that it seems like a maneuver to indoctrinate children into celebrity culture and breed better consumers. In my memory if a guest appeared on a children's television show it was to educate you about their profession or way of life. Having celebrities on because they are celebrities leads too well (along with many other factors) into the pattern of people being famous for being famous out of proportion and beyond the scope of their achievements or skill, and then being idolized for such fame. It's easier to control the consumption of a culture based around celebrity worship. I'm not trying to be apocalyptic about this or say that the producers of Sesame Street attended some secret Illuminati meeting to carry out step 8126 of the plan to take over the world; it's just a pattern people need to be aware of. I could even be wrong in this instance and the purpose of having Perry on the show was meant for genuine addition to its educational value.

I have little respect for Katy Perry.

Inside she's just an insecure girl with large breasts.
Without them i doubt shed have any confidence at all.

*cough* Habba-Habba!

I got to 30ish seconds before that god awful fucking news guys' voice put me off. I think i got the gist of it, though i was expecting her to have worn black latex or something, or turned up drunk from what the title gave away.

Monster and making Oscar live in a recycling bin, they've also removed a genuinely (but not that extreme) bad influence from the show. Jeez.
Wait what?! Please tell me your joking!

IT'S NOT EVEN LOW-CUT!

Look closely! It has a skin-tone part above where the dress ends.

Seriously people, how fucking afraid of sex are you that you're going to whine about a low-cut dress that's not even low-cut?
Actually, I think it's more of mesh thing or like panty-hose material, but w/e.

I'll be succinct. Outfit a big deal? No. Still should have worn something (edit: a little) less revealing? Yes.
Yeah, it's a mesh-pantyhose-material-thing. That's what I meant to say; I just didn't know the right terminology.

Bottom line, that's not a low-cut dress. A low cut dress exposes actual skin. This dress doesn't expose anything!

It looks like it's a real low-cut dress because the dress material is skin-tone. Maybe that's enough to be a problem for some people, but not me. For me, there is a very clear line between risqué and not a problem, and that line is when I see actual skin, Goddammit!

Last time I checked, toddlers were brought to the beach all the time, where you'll see plenty of men in shorts and women in bikinis.

American society has always been like this, it's not really surprising.

The more prevalent problem in modern times is the lack of personal responsibility. Whether it be parents or their kids, everything is always deferred to someone else.

you have to keep in mind that middle america, you know the stupid ones that do everything and believe everything they're told, are the ones that complained and had this episode pulled. I mean her dress does seem a bit revealing, but if you look closer at her cleavage (I certainly was) you'll find that their is a flesh colored under-garment thing underneath her dress so really she wasn't baring any cleavage at all.

So the video is old news by now, but what I wanted to talk about is the incident as a whole.

Do we really live in such a boring depraved society, that we have to complain about EVERYTHING? The program is aimed at pre-schoolers, they aren't going to think "oooh boobies" they're going to think "oh I like this cute girl singing with elmo" It just baffles me how easily people get "offended" by everything and anything.

So what do you guys think? do we complain too much in todays society, or are these complains really justified?
The fun police: Ruining it for the rest of us since the dark ages.

most people that ***** about stuff like that are bored house moms that got nothing better to do (AKA Soccer Moms)
their arguments are automaticly invalid due to their constant complaining (these are the same moms that whine about GTA being to violent for little timy even though its named after a crime)

If this were to air I wouldn't be asking "why did they put her on looking like that?". No, I'd be asking "why didn't they have her on when I watched Sesame Street?".

I was more of a PlaySchool kid anyway.

I think it is ridiculous. kids seeing bare boobs has no negative effect in anyway, if anything it would have no effect. most kids breast feed then then all of a sudden its bad if they see someone with a low cut dress. its just silly if you ask me.
Yes, now lets get them all naked and show them how to have sex.

That.. Probably was slightly over the top.. Actually it is, but the idea is to keep children.. Innocent? Well, put it like this. A music video has mostly naked female dancing with what appears to be male strippers on stage. A childrens show has nice, friendly people wearing normal clothes.

We can introduce girls to low cut tops and make up later, as it is, lets try not to reinforce the insecure image, yea?

Most of the females I come across are fairly insecure, or I'm just observationally biased. But they can't leave the house without makeup, they're desperate for attention, they wear low cut tops so some drunk 'tard will notice them.. While they're children, they're not like that. Make up is something you put on because it's fun, or you want to play. You don't _need_ it. Low cut tops.. Don't exist, they're comfortable with who they are and have neither need nor desire to sexually impress the guys around them since being able to walk across the top of the monkey bars does a much better job of impressing in general. On most guys. Granted, there's the odd case of.. Adult children, and parents dislike 5 year olds doing ballet on the monkey bars, but still.

It's much the same as keeping rap with lyrics "Gonna pop a cap in their motherfuckin' ass" and "fuck dem hoes and bitches all night" out of reach. Having to explain what "************" means to a five year old is.. Well, personally I like avoiding it but hey, just me.

IMO, and just my opinion, there's no need for it. However, having said that, making a fuss about it has much the same effect so either way it's a lose for.. Whatever I'm arguing.

heh.. How stupid is it. That the language used in pop culture today is something to be ashamed of.

They know what Katy Perry is like, they know she is very 'sexy' and bases her act on that. Look at her California Girls vidoe. (seriously, do. It's really hot!) So why can't they use their fucking brains and think, "Katy Perry is a very sexualised icon, she talks about kissing girls and wears skimpy outfits. Maybe she isn't the best person to invite on a kids show."

Sorry, but what's the perceived wrongdoing of Neil Patrick Harris?
Absolutely nothing is wrong with it. Why should something be wrong with Katy Perry? Why is one better than the other?

Done reading. Seems all anyone can argue with around here is "I know it's an extreme example but...". I'd happily wait for an "Here's a completely analogous example" to come around, but I might be waiting for a long time.
