See, I was just browsing Steam for fun... because that's what I do... when I was finally brought to click on the Kayne & Lynch 2 banner... I knew it was coming out and I had heard a little about it, but then the auto-play video came up and I let it play while trying to find the Metacritic score... It wasn't on there but when I scrolled back up the video started to interest me. So I clicked on the "unmute" button and started to watch it and it really interested me.

Now, I had never had any real interest in this series at all. Never played the first one and never read anything for the second one. But something about that trailer really grabbed my attention. Now I'm watching videos for it and it really doesn't look that bad, despite it having a 65 on Metacritic. I very a very high tolerance for bad games... I mean, I played through Dark Void. And every single review tends to be a love it or hate it kind of thing so I'm going to ask the Escapist... what did you think of Kayne & Lynch 2? Have you played it? Should I play the first one since it's only $15 and then get the second one? Should I wait for Mafia II? I just want to know what someone thinks of it.

As for reference... I like Gears of War, but never really got into Army of Two. As I said, I played through Dark Void and I like third person shooters like Uncharted 2.

And as an added bonus: What trailers got you interested in a game you previously weren't interested in?

Honestly, I tried so hard to like the first one because a good friend did and I absolutely hated it. It seemed more of a chore than a game to me and the online play was a laughable mess.

The only thing I will hold in its favour is that I joined the experience very late so perhaps I caught the shitty end of the stick.

From my experiences with the demo, Kane and Lynch 2 didn't really catch my interest. Seems too dark, and the shooting isn't really that great.

Well of course it LOOKS good but it will probably be awful, I suggest shelling out 15 dollars for the first one and after playing it ask yourself if your willing to tolerate more of the same.

Mafia II looks awsome but im not gonna buy it right away, im gonna wait about a week and see what people say, good strategy for what you should do with the 2nd Kayne and Lynch

Oh and Gears is awsome, Army of two sucks (especially the sequel) and Uncharted wasn't bad

Well, if you like games with good, gritty story, interesting premises and interesting characters, and can forgive certain technical and game design flaws that a game might suffer from then I'd recommend getting Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.

Personally, I've been psyched for the second part of the series ever since I finished the first game. I want to know what happens next with one of the most interesting duo in video gaming to grace the most recent generation consoles.

Ugh, honestly, I wouldn't be the right person to ask. Since the first one and the Gamespot incident I'd given up on ever caring about this series.

However I will answer your other question.

The Old Republic cinematic trailers get me all giddy. I know the final game isn't going to look like it, but dammit they're just so awesome!

I played the singleplayer portion of the demo released on Xbox Live a while back. It was okay, but not quite good enough for me. I would have loved to try out the interesting multiplayer modes, but I couldn't get into a game.

EDIT: To elaborate a little more, I really liked the setting and the characters. Furthermore, the 'documentary' feel was quite refreshing and interesting. However, the gameplay wasn't solid enough. The shooting and cover mechanics seemed a little sloppy, is all.

It's been getting horrible reviews, don't bother with it. I say give it a rent if you got a consol, or just download the demo.

Eh, the first one was okay. The story was fairly mediocre and at times seemed a little disjointed. It often drew on aspects from Kane's previous life, which are never explained or fleshed out.

The second one looks to be of similar fashion, though something about the headshot censoring really annoys me.

But it always looks good...
OT: The Mafia 2 trailers...
But the demo sold it to me...

It looks pretty similar to Army of Two, so if you like that, I'd say you'd like Kane and Lynch.
I for one really like the visual style; it looks like the entire game's being filmed off a camcorder.

It is an alright game. The game-play is good and the shooting is fun but it is nothing really worth buying. It isn't a bad game, just more of a rental game.

EDIT: Whoops, I totally misread everything. Ick. Sorry.

OP: I thought Kane and Lynch 2 played... not great. Pass it.

I so thoroughly disliked the first Kane and Lynch that I doubt I could like the second. I have also been skeptical of Eidos since Square Enix took over, which is worrying because I really want the new Deus Ex to be good.

I played the first Kane and Lynch because i liked the premis (i don't play multiplayer) but the game became more frustrating and boring as it moved from a bank robbing scenario to a shitty war in a 3rd world country and reguardless of weather you chose to help your friends or escape with your daughter the end was depressing and made me hate myself for playing the game.

so i'm a little aprehensive about playing the 2nd game.

I loved the first Kane and Lynch. I loved the demo for Kane and Lynch 2. I wanted to rent it last night but all the copies were out :(
