I wonder how someone, who has created several unique, albeit less-than-"splendtastic" videogames, (Fable, the B&W Franchise,) could become so arrogant concerning his own enterprises. Regardless of his success, he constantly overestimates himself, that is, Peter Molyneux.

Heres a fantastic example- Peter Molyneux on his next project, TBA:

"I think it's such a significant scientific achievement that it will be on the cover of Wired," he says with a twinkle in his eye.

"My next game will not be Fable 3. It's not a game I can talk to you about right now, but: AI, simulation, the way characters interact -- we've had smart people working on that stuff for over a decade with the Fable games and Black and White." His next game consolidates all of what they have learned, he says.

"All right," says Molyneux's PR wrangler, ready for situations like this. "I think it's time to move on to another topic now."

I am a HUGE fan of the PR's cutoff, trying to save his game from Molyneux's achilles heel, (namely, HYPE)

I was another who was drawn into Fable by delusions of grander, only to be massively disappointed.

That said, the Fable 2 does look pretty interesting, i may have to keep an eye on it.

Your thoughts on this rawwther hilarious interchange?

ah theres some people in the entretainment industry that make ridiculous hype and egocentric statements, i think the widely hated Uwe Bollsh*t is also a good example

Oh Peter, Peter.

In a way, you can't help but feel for the guy. He clearly loves what he does and just loves talking about it. The problem is that Peter frequently tends to bite off more than he can chew.

Hey...no matter what he says it still doesn't beat the 4D graphics claim some Sony rep said about PS3. I forget who. Was it Kaz?

Indeed, he definitely has the enthusiasm for his work, just that he really can't put it to good use.

He reminds me a little bit of a six-year-old firmly convinced that his next iMovie project will be the first indie short video to win Best Picture.

The sad thing is, the man has SOME actual talent, it's just that his eyes are way bigger than his stomach.

I really didn't think you needed to show us the article. I never heard an interview with Molyneux, and I LOVED Fable. I do have to admit that Pete should keep quiet (Like Schafer...he waited 3 years before giving away details for Brutal Legend), but the less hype we hear about Fable 2 before release, the more you will like it, I assure you.

I actualy love the was Fable 2 is being hyped and it is currently my most anticipated game. Peter sound's alot more humble this time around and he is attleast being creative unlike most developers out there.

Also, doesn't he give the impresion of a guy who if you went drinking with your wallet would be significantly lighter then you expected but you would'nt care?

You can't not like Peter, he has high hopes for his game and really cares about them. He is really excited about his games, and what is wrong with that? Sure he might get a bit too excited but honestly what is wrong with that.

He cares about his games, in my opinion the Industry needs more people like Peter M.

Yep, this time he's only promising to create the first npc's ever in video games that we will truly love. Real humble there, bless him.

He comes across to me as a very nice, friendly chap with an unfortunate case of motor-mouth syndrome. He needs, I think, to reign himself in a bit and create a game that doesn't try to revolutionise every single aspect of the medium, and instead creates an experience that is simple, fun and complete.
Atleast he is trying, a failure would make a moderately enjoyable RPG, a succes would make the best RPG ever. Win win

Well, both him and Cliffy B are the most controversial and heavily criticized figures in the Industry.

But I think of it this way:
Most Devs aim for the sky and while they succeed, they're still on Earth.

Peter M aims for Mars but his little rocket fails and crash-lands on the Moon. His games are still better than a majority of titles but get scorn by the community because he "promised" Mars.

As overhyped as B&W was, it was one of the most innovative games ever created.

Oh, but you can not like Peter. I won't argue on the fact that he does care about his games (because he does) although i find his tendency to make the hype machine backfire on him nothing short of remarkable, but the man really has a thing for screwing things up. What about Bullfrog Productions, the company behind Populous, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper and the Theme * series? Peter sold Bullfrog to EA only to leave and start a new company (Lionhead Studios) less than 2 years later when he realized all EA did was to impose deadlines (see Magic Carpet 2). A major publisher limiting the creative process and forcing you to release buggy games to meet with the holiday seasons? Jeez, i wouldn't see that one coming either.

So, cutting my point short, you can not like the man for the simple fact the he literally doomed a few of the most iconic PC gaming franchises.

Artist have a general (not universal) tendancy to be bad at buisness.

Wait, since when has he been an artist?
Since games were art.

Oh, dear. Mr Molyneux, what will we do without you?
He DOES make good games, yet he makes them out to be the best of their genere, take a quote from one of the Fable II videos
"Now, I know I said a very stupid thing during Fable I: We are going to make the best RPG of All time...and I still think that."
