Terrible, terrible, news!

They're not gonna be happy until they butcher this damn sequel are they? I've read blizzard talking about wanting to "re-imagine" the characters. What are they George Lucas now? Can we expect them to remake SC1 with Wookies and imperial walkers? [/sarcasm]

A petition has been started. Its our only hope now.

http://www.petitiononline.com/sc2cast/petition.html

I would ask that you all sign it, pass it on to friends, post it on forums, etc

Unfortunately, because they are mostly comprised of easy-to-click agreement without any real detail, most online petitions are pretty much impotent. I wish you all the luck in the world, but rarely do online petitions do anything to change developers' minds. Actual written letters, blogs, and long discussion threads, on the other hand, have a bit better chance.

Voice actors are sometimes hired out through studios that have "pools" of them working under the same banner. Some of them work solo, but many work under the same company so as to increase likelihood of being hired as a package for a company with multiple needs.

I'm sad to see the original Kerrigan voice to be gone. Starcraft 2 will obviously be fine - after all, a voice or two in the grand scheme of things is hardly important to the game's success. The appeal just gets diminished a bit. Those decrying Bliazard and doomcasting the end of the world due to this though - those are the same people who will have forgotten this "injustice" in a week's time.

I must say Blizzard is acting rather dickish with the latest in their franchise.

They're throwing away all the great talent that was responsible for their success in the first place.

Let me play the devil advocate:

I would surmize it is because by this point Kerrigan is so mutated she bears no resemblance to a human. Don't be suprised if she's a giant centipede or something.

Because we don't have the technology to synthetically alter voices. Right.

Someones being a negative nancy... your assuming she'll have a voice, or a speaking role.

I dunno. When I bought Star Craft and eventually Brood Wars, I played the campaigns so seldom that I can hardly remember her voice in the first place. I played multiplayer and vs CPU skirmishes more than anything. I dunno, playing the game for the game itself seemed a more viable use of my playing time than listening to the people talk repeatedly. Play the campaign once, get to multiplayer. Multiplayer lacked Kerrigan. I hardly heard her voice, for me, she will not be missed (assuming I even buy SC2, since I hold no interest in the game at this point honestly.)

I always thought Kerrigan had a kind of sexy voice. I'm kinda of disappointed to see a RL pic of her. As for why she isn't reprising her role in SC2, it would have to be financially motivated. If she is a veteran with Blizzard, should would be asking for appropriate remuneration. It would be much cheaper to get someone who might be less experienced.

Will this affect my reaction to playing the game. No. Probably not. After playing Dawn of War 2, I have pretty high expectations for SC2 now though.

Trying to make as much money as they can?
When an actor or actress is in a game or movie, and that production does REALLY well. They expect to make more money for the second installment, it's only logical. So if Blizzard gets someone who they don't have to pay that extra cash to then they save money. Similarly, if you have to buy THREE games instead of one they make more money. Or should I say, if you HAVE to buy three games . . . because any game can have an expansion pack, but not everyone will buy it. But if the entire game is split into three then sales are probably more guaranteed for the 2nd and 3rd installments.

I understand that they're trying to make a quick buck off the name, I should have added to my post earlier instead of just have a vague "What the hell are they doing". It is a shame really, and sad to see them try to turn StarCraft into a cash cow like WoW, although not surprising.

Well how much love went into their two main franchises anyway? From what I heard, they were originally just rip offs of Warhammer and Warhammer40K when Blizzard couldn't get the actual rights from Games Workshop. The dude in the SC2 trailer couldn't look more like a 40K Space Marine if he tried.
Honestly, I never even knew Warhammer existed until the PC games came out. I know it has been around for a long time as a table top game, and I wont deny that a lot of the ideas in WarCraft/StarCraft weren't exactly original. That's obvious just by looking at some of the units that were inspired from movies/books/games.

Maybe Blizzard really didn't put as much love into the games as I had always believed, but it definitely got a lot of love from its fan base it is now metaphorically slapping in the face.

I think they've said quite a few times before that they wanted to have other actors for the roles, because the writer (or whoever it was) imagined them as having other voices originally.

I doubt a slight pay increase for a few actors does much to their budget, especially since sales projections must be decidedly high.

She speaks in the trailers, and all her concept art shows her as still mostly human.

I have a very simple solution to every single problem with the game so far(raynor, the split, kerrigan): Have somebody assasinate Bobby or atleast get him banned from Blizzard's offices.

Minimising costs for maximum profit.

This then?

God, George Bush can spend 8 years getting people killed and people defend him for 6 of them, Blizzard merges with one company and has yet to put out a bad game and everyone wants to assume the worst.
