Kevin Conroy Talks Arkham Asylum

Kevin Conroy, star of Batman: Arkham Asylum has talked about voicing the titular character and working with Mark Hamill as well as commenting on another recent cowl wearer.

"I admit I'm not up on all of the Batman comics, but I have a deep connection to the character after playing him for so many years." Those are the words of voice actor Kevin Conroy, and it's hard to argue with him, considering that he has played the Dark Knight almost non-stop since 1992, longer than Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney and Bale combined.

Developer Rocksteady gained a lot of points with Batman fans when they announced that the lead would be voiced by Conroy, and his nemesis, the Joker, would be voiced by Mark Hamill. Conroy was clearly pleased to be working with the Star Wars alumni again: "Mark is incredible as always," he said. "There's no one I'd rather have voicing The Joker."

In Conroy's view, Hamill is the quintessential Joker, saying "I think Mark created the definitive 'crazy' Joker. There's no question Heath Ledger gave an unbelievable performance in The Dark Knight as a scheming, anarchist Joker. But Mark perfected that fun, insane character."

Conroy was also asked what he felt about Christian Bale's interesting take on the character's voice in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, to which he replied: "I thought Christian was excellent as Bruce Wayne, but I didn't understand his choices there. I thought it was over the top and distracted from his scenes as Batman. I'm not sure what they were going for there. But, what do I know?"

Don't be so coy Kevin, you know plenty.

Yes, it was. I loved that show. Mark Hamill and Conroy, are, in my opinion, the best Batman and Joker combination. Ever.

I wish they would shut up with all the talking and actually bring out the PC version instead of some lame excuses about how the completely non-existent "improved graphics and physics" need more time to polish.

Keven Conroy has the perfect Batman and Wayne voices. They just.. fit. None of the live action Batmen look or sound like Wayne, but he sounds like Wayne. I'd like to see a 100% CGI (The kind you can actually mistake for real life) Batman movie with him as Wayne and Batman and Mark as Joker and the rest of the TAS cast reprising their roles. One big movie with everyone from TAS. Have Bruce/Bats be nearing the age he retired at, and no sidekicks. Nightwing can be there, however.
No. No Nightwing. We can have Oracle 'cause she doesn't interfere.

Conroy is the definitive Batman anyway.

Completely agreed.
That show will forever live on as one of my most cherished animated series.

Mark Hamill also pulls of the character of the Joker flawlessly, yet again.
Which is a hard expectation to live up to, especially when you were this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGjMbTBDL_g] good.

And on a completely unrelated note: Hamill gets bonus points for the line "May the floss be with you!"

I actually like Bale's better than Conroy's. With Bale, when you hear Bruce talk, and then Batman, they don't sound so similar, perhaps to throw people off, which is a nice detail. Nevertheless, I don't think Batman should have nothing less than some either crazy and/or intimidating voice, or just plain cold. A Batman with personality, is a Batman you won't fear.

Conroy's voice is too calm and gentle, for the reasons aforementioned, in my opinion that is.

Anyways, that isn't really important for me liking the movies/game(s), but adds good/bad details.

Anyways 2.0. Arkham Asylum is really an impressive game. The fluent fight scenes, nice stealth, *cough*, predator action and solid graphic. The only thing that bothers me is, too much quick-time-event-esque action. The "what-ever-they're-called" statues are a nice feature to the game, as you can use them to get an overview and plan your attack, but the "press R1" stuff is dull and, well, too quick-time-event-esque for me.

If anyone has bothered to read this comment, I have a question; Is it free roam of sorts? Or just revisitation of previous areas? Or w00t? Elaborate pl0x0idz.

kthxbye

Addendum; I guess I'm the only one preferring Bale as Batman <.<...

But Batman isn't suppose to talk that much. He doesn't really chat with the bad guys.

Excellent point, and I actually would prefer a Batman who was mute. Now THAT woulda be scary. "What do you want?!" *Batman just walks towards you* "Just tell me what you want!!" *Keeps walking, all scary-like* "Okay! Okay! Dr. Evil will be a pier 27 at midnight!!", or whatever. But the scene in Batman: Begins, where he interrogates this crocked cop, is freaking awesome in my opinion. So, if he abba'salutely HAS to talk, I would prefer Bale.

I liked the season 1 design for the Joker better, with the red lips and all, but yeah, that episode is awesome.

Indeed. It made no sense that they scrapped the S1 design, especially after they accepted his origin of falling into the vat of chemicals.

Yeah, exactly. At first, I found it distracting, but then I asked myself, "Would it be wise to speak normally when you're Bruce Wayne? The most famous and easily identifiable voice in Gotham? Yeah, makes perfect sense."
