I want to get my sister into watching more anime. I already showed her Zatch Bell and Fairy Tail, but I ran out of ideas because I'm more of a Death Note sort of guy. She seems to like goofy comedy stuff, and doesn't like anything too dated. I would love any suggestions.

For hysterical, slice-of-life comedy, try School Rumble. However, it does have a few PG-13 moments, but is pretty great overall.

My little sister got into anime through The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and K-On!. K-On! is especially popular with girls so that may be a good place to start. If she enjoys K-On! then have her try out The iDOLM@STER anime as well since they have similar themes, iM@S is just less slice of life.

Just keep her away from shows like Hetalia and Tiger and Bunny. Both shows that are popular with girls as well, however they tend to turn those girls into annoying little weebs that never shut the fuck up about their favourite yaoi pairings.

Ahh... Hetalia. One of the "Three Kings of Annoying Fanfiction Gay Porn Stories."

Highschool DXD, Bible Black, Kill La Kill (I'm just kidding, do not show ANY of these to a young child.)

My Bride is a Mermaid is quite wacky and zany. It gets a little suggestive at times, but mostly in a comedic way. Lots of references too.

GJ-Bu is pretty great as well. No real story, just a bunch of hijinks. All age appropriate as well.

That's all I can really put. Most of my anime has ecchi in it, not by choice either.

I'm assuming your sister is at least a teenager.

If she likes goofy comedies I'd recommend:

-Nichijou: (It's an adaption of a 4koma [4 panel] comic strip and the jump to animation really makes it shine. If anything, it's really fun to watch, but the humor is also pretty good.

-Cromartie highschool: (If you don't mind surreal stuff, this is one of the funniest anime/manga I've seen)

-Clannad and Clannad: after story (It's a visual novel rom-com adaptation. One of the best VN adaptations I've seen. It's pretty funny and After Story will hit you in the feels)

-Chuuinbyuu: It's a really funny show, but around half way it jumps into rom-com feels.

-The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamiya: It's a damn good show. Watch it in Broadcast or chronological order, whichever you like (you should watch chronological at least once though).

It sounds like your sister would be a big fan of soul eater. It has a lot of silly humor in it and is sort of similar to the shows you mentioned.

If she can look past the fan service, Kill la Kill is a pretty great show (the fan service in that show is more of a running gag than actual fan service).

Angel Beat is both humorous and heart wrenching and actually made me tear up a little bit (its also super short).

This is all I can think of at the moment.

Me and my ten year old brother both watched Kill la Kill together and we both loved it. Honestly, we watch a bunch of anime together that you can say are inappropriate for kids, like Madoka and Evangelion, and even Panty and Stocking, which I showed him when he was much younger and he still enjoyed them. I'm even plan on showing him Attack on Titan.

But that's just us.

OT: Well, how old is she? I'm gonna assume something PG-13 at the most, unless you have confidence that she can handle something intended for an older audience.

From those examples I'm guessing action shows with some goofy comedy thrown in, so maybe you can give Fullmetal Alchemist (Either the original or Brotherhood) a try, even though there are some fairly brutal scenes here and there. Gurren Lagann can be a fun one. Maybe Soul Eater can be one, too. Also, while not an action show, Ouran Host Club can be a good one for girls. You can also try showing her other genres, just to open her up to other types of shows.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is totally suitable for everyone, ever.

Either that or Kill la Kill >_>

Anything made by studio Ghibli, first of all. Then I'd recommend Rurouni Kenshin. Old but very good, suitable for basically everyone, and there's plenty of silly slapstick. Also, there's over a hundred episodes, even when not counting OVAs and such, so there's plenty of entertainment.

Great for family friendly fun!

I kid of course. Hamtaro and Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san are the only ones I've watched that I feel can fill the goofy comedy stuff (although that last one is pretty odd and I mean japanese commercial odd while Hamtaro was first started in 2000).

Oh, I'd also suggest Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann too although that is 2007 and is made by Gainax [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GainaxEnding] so the ending comes out of left field somewhat.

What are the others? Naruto and MLP? Mass Effect might even qualify, but then again, at least the relationships are mostly possible in the game.

OT: Sorry, can't help you with anime for little kids. They've never appealed to me for some reason.

Harry Potter and Star Wars, in my opinion at least. There are tons of those kind s of stories in every fandom.

I'll have to agree with everything here if she likes the goofy stuff, though I'll add onto it with my obligatory Ranma 1/2 plug, written by the same person as Bride is a Mermaid if I remember right, I haven't read or watched either of them in a while now...

I also have to recommend GTO as being one of the best lift-up feel better animes out there, except maybe for the first episode, it's sorta weird how it goes about it, but you still get the feel good ending.

Haganai is good, big slice of life about a Friend's Club.

The World God Only Knows turns into a very good anime and is considered by alot of people to be one of the better monster of the week shows out there, but if she doesn't like subs, don't watch it, since if you want to go past the first season, you'll be forced to watch the subs.

Also Aria the Scarlet Ammo is good, except for a few scenes of annoying ecchi/fan service and a running "school uniform turns into a parachute" gag

And finally, a nice mix of fun and dark is Eden of the East.
