I wonder if there are any military personnel trolling the forums who has any personal experience with this. Be interesting to see what they have to say. I can understand killing people who are out to kill you but when you start generalizing and wanting to kill civilians too thats when shit crosses the line.

We don't care what they think or do on their spare time. When off duty, the military has no control over what stickers people put on their vehicles. I can understand where some people might get this gun-ho attitude in post-9/11 America, but when you see a sticker that does say "Kill Hadji" it's not necessarily referring to civilians. We have been using codewords and slang to describe and name our opponents, the Germans were Jerries, the Russians were Ivans, and the Viet Cong were Charlies, taken from the phonetic Victor Charlie. It's a form of mental conditioning that allows a soldier to dehumanize their opponent and perform his or her duty to the fullest. It's easier to pull a trigger on some nameless Charlie than to start thinking it's just a normal guy with a name, a family, and kids.

I hate to say it, but while I can respect the US Marines and their willingness to give their lives, they are from a country that began with racism and has been moving away from how racist it was before very, very slowly. Most of the Redneck Americans will instantly count anyone who resembles someone from an enemy country as an enemy of America. In fact, I work with an guy from India, and apparently a couple of hicks think that India is in the Middle East, so they keep calling him "Jihad" and things along those lines.

I thinks its funny how wrong some of u r. A few of u were close to getting the 'kill hadjis' thing right. A hadji is a muslim who has completed the pilgrimage to meccah and back. They are considered an elder and counselor of their tribe. But to us marines, a hadji is any islamic person who tries or want to kill us. It is a derogitory word that allows us to dehumanize our enemy the same way they do us. It is a large necessity to stay sane during and after combat. This is coming from an infantry rifleman in the united states marine corps

I don't think that's intended as a racist statement (at least not by most people who use it, granted there are always those idiots who will be racist). I believe it's just slang for the terrorists and has more to do with what their religious required journey to their holy land rather than the Johnny Quest character. I may be wrong on that last bit though. Oh, and Anarchy In Detroit...I would recommend that you not say things like that. I've known a few Marines and they can be rather violent when offended. I, myself, was Army.

I think it should be expected that they continue to think they same way in home that they did in the battlefield, at least keep some similarities. I mean, if you train to be a soldier for months-years and then spend years living that lifestyle constantly, it is understandable that they would keep that mentality. I'm not trying to start an arguement, just explain another point of view. Try studying the same thing for that long and live a life where that is the main topic and then move on to something different without retaining and expressing things related to that.
