What are everyone's thoughts? Bearing in mind the audio is probably just the raw recording without mixing or ambient sound, I'm cautiously optimistic. For the most part the voices seem pretty good, although a few I'm less keen on (Mako mainly, and to a lesser extent Ryuuko and Senketsu). The pronunciation of many names and words seem pretty off as well due to the differences in English and Japanese speech patterns.

Meh, I can't say I'm really sold on it. At any rate I'm just happy that this is getting a Western DVD release.

First thing first, Aniplex USA dub trailers are awful. Nothing to do with the dub voices themselves, but the trailer does a terrible job at showcasing them and make the lines come across as awkward. When you watch the show and hear the lines in context, they sound perfectly fine, so for the most part I'm reserving judgement for when I actually hear the dub when it comes out. The trailer is not a good representation of the final quality of the dub.

As for the voices, I think it's a solid cast.

I honestly thought Carrie Keranen would've made a good Ryuko, simply going off her Casca voice, but I can get behind her as Satsuki, and the girl voicing Ryuko sounds spot on. Same goes for Patrick Seitz as Gamagoori and Sarah Williams as Nonon. I think Christine Marie Cabanos is a good choice for Mako, although I didn't get to hear a lot of her, but I was actually hoping she'd play Nui, because that would've been hilarious and kinda creepy. I'm glad they're going with "Goku" Uniforms rather than... whatever the hell the other subs did. Some of the pronounciations are a bit weird. While they're technically not pronouncing the names wrong, it just sounds a bit odd in English, but I guess it's just something I'll get used to and probably works for the best in some cases, like when Ryuko shouts "Kamui Senketsu." I'm curious as to who will be cast as Ragyo and Nui, but I rather wait and see than speculate. I tend to have a lot of faith in Bang Zoom!

My only real gripe is the pricing, as usual with Aniplex USA.

Also, is it me, or are dubs coming out far quicker now than ever before. Kill la Kill just finished airing three months ago and already they have a dub and an US release.

All the nope.

Mako would make or break it, I cringed as soon as I heard her.

Nope.

I didn't expect much and if this trailer is any true representation of the quality of the dub, I'll pass on it. It DOES have pretty big shoes to fill, so it's no surprise. Though, while I am just a bit 'meh' about it, some people I know are livid LOL

I'll give the first episode or two a shot, but if they don't deliver then I just stick with subs.

The dub should be leagues better when it's actually in the show and mixed, so you shouldn't have to worry.

I feel like this is relevant:

Satsuki just sounds like she's throwing a massive hissy fit at the start, but otherwise it doesn't seem too terrible.

Grant George as Sanageyama is perfect though.

Honestly I'm pleasantly surprised with it. I mean Gamagoori and Jakazure sound perfect. Sure it's not perfect but considering we could have got another Attack on Titan I'm not complaining.

Sounds fine. You have to be some kind of jaded weeaboo anime geek, to think it sounds bad. I've got nothing against subs, but as a native english speaker, I prefer dubs. Even if they end up being cheesy.

Couldn't agree more. I can't wait to pick up on the jokes I missed in the dialogue.

I'd say it's solidly average in terms of anime dubs, which means it's pretty bad in terms of native North American cartoons.

Yeah, you have to be a total weeb to not want sub-par voice acting and people dong Japanese mannerisms and saying Japanese names in an American accent.

I often legitimately wondering if I'm listening to the same thing as other people. I've seen a lot of praise for the dub on other forums and it just doesn't do it for me. If this was a native NA cartoon we'd slam it for how its acted, yet because it's anime it's okay?

Compare this to Archer, for instance.

Kinda pissed they didn't use Kamina's VA for Sanageyama. I dunno, it just seemed it would have fit so well.

It sounds pretty average. It doesn't sound terrible like some of the 4kids stuff. But it's nowhere near Bebop or GITS.

Will I watch it again in dub? Hell yeah, I don't need much of a reason to re-watch Kill la Kill.

Still the biggest issue for me in dubs is the names, and I really feel like that's where this suffers the most.

Gamagori and Jakuzure are pretty much perfect, to me. Everyone else is kind of just okay. Except for Senketsu, he has clearly lost his way.

All things considered it's not bad, but it doesn't really stand out. I could probably stand to watch it in English, but it's not making it onto the list of anime's that I prefer in English.

You enjoy one version more then the other, it's not because you're a native English speaker, it's not because one version is better then the other, it just comes down to personal taste.
Being a bit more cheesy, being in your native tongue, these are just aspects to make you like it more and may be more of a factor in your overall enjoyment of the show.

Now get the hell out of here with your juvenile insults targeted towards people who have a freakin different persona; taste then you do, you don't call someone an asswad because they don't enjoy your favorite kindof soda, and you don't call someone out on dislike your precious little dub.

Jakuzure was perfect. Ryuuko was decent. Gamagoori was... passable. I forget the others.
But Senketsu... poor poor Senketsu.

This I have to agree with 100%. I can't say everything ewlse was spectacular, and Senketsu was just... no. Not fun to listen to. Kinda wish Ryoku would just say Senketsu without the U cut off like they do in Japan, as well. It sounds way too weird.

It gets a solid meh from me. Maybe I'll grow to like it over a few episodes but Mako's dub voice sounds painful enough.

...And, at that very moment, I pictured the dub being showcased on Toonami...

OT: I'm fine with the dubbing so far... so, I'll wait until I can actually see the dubbed episodes in action before I say anything else in the manner...

Satsuki's voice is good (I dislike the way her name is being pronounced, but that might be the proper pronunciation). I wish Gamagoori's voice was more over-the-top, like Hulk Hogan, but it is fine overall. All of the Elite Four/Four Devas turned out well. I hope the actor for Mikisugi has a good vocal range. Mako Mankanshoku... I wonder if anyone can do justice to that role. She'll be a challenge for her voice actor. Finally Matoi and Senketsu... I think Matoi's actor will really nail the screaming and shouting scenes which is important whereas Senketsu... I really hope his voice will be deeply modified to sound a bit monstrous.
