So the new Kill La Kill OVA just came out today, what did you think about it?

Spoilers, obviously.

As you can tell from my avatar, I really enjoyed it. It was everything I wanted in a final send-off for the series! Now I am just really sad that it's finally, completely over :(

KLK was a fantastic series that will be sorely missed, but fear not my fellow nudists... Broketus will live on forever in our hearts.

I have to say I thought it was a pretty good send off to the show. I'm gonna miss it.

Honestly I thought it served well inbetween the final episode and the epilogue during the credit and nicely wrap up all the loose ends.

Heh, it look like that theory with the school itself being a giant mech was true afterall! I thought it was nice that they were able to give some back stories to the assistant into why she was loyal to Ragyo and she was the only one that I thought that still pose a threat after Ragyo suicide. Granted the bit I didn't fully get is Satsuki offering her to joined her but as the assistant put it, she didn't make sense (I guess it's the usualy redemption thing). Also the scissor blade becoming mech size was just typical Kill La Kill.

I heard about it but I haven't seen it, mainly because I don't know where to watch it. Seeing you people say how good it is makes me want to watch it more.

I'd have to watch the scene again, but IIRC the Satsuki x Rei scene was there to reinforce the 'incomprehensible/weird = good' theme of the main series (which gets brought up by Ryuuko and Mako at the start of the OVA). She says it doesn't make any sense to follow Satsuki and Satsuki basically replies with, "so what?".

I heard somewhere that it was supposed to be more light OVA, but it was a good send off to the series, though I wish there was more character development and an expansion to the epilogue.
From what I understand the writers wanted to leave a lot of that stuff open-ended so that the fans could headcanon pretty much whatever they wanted. I thought it accomplished what it set out to do and there's enough there to extrapolate how the characters will live the rest of their lives.

I thought it was rather meh honestly. It was a mediocre send off to what other wise was a fantastic series. I would have preferred if it was more of an epilogue. Granted I did enjoy seeing Mako slap sense into people by not making any whatsoever.

I loved it personally.

As much as I would love a season 2 since the it's a rather open ended finale, I don't see how they could the creator make more story out of it now that the fibers are completely gone (more or less).

It was a great farewell to a fantastic anime and I shall never forget it especially that scene with Ryuko and Senketsu at the end gave me goosebumps when the "don't lose your way" kicked in that I was squealing with joy.

PS: Mako is still best girl.

I just finished watching it and it was a nice send off, and completely worth waiting for.

It did a pretty good job of tying up a few loose ends, and I really loved how it ended. Perfect way to end a series.

I'm really gonna miss that show.

Also, Mako is still a baller.

Some interesting things to notice about this OVA.

1. The school Mako says she and Ryuko are going to go to is Gama's old school.
2. Ryuko absorbs life fibers with her hair for some reason
3. Satsuki gains several strands of rainbow hair like Ragyo had.

What does it mean? nothing, but still interesting to note.

I thought it was kind of meh and unnecessary honestly.

The the assistant being the antagonist seemed incredibly underwhelming considering the previous episode just came off Ragyo who was an amazing villain, and the assistant is also overshadowed by Satsuki as an antagonist. Basically every antagonist in the show was better than her, and it seems a shame for the show to go out on the weakest and least interesting antagonist (she's so unmemorable that I've forgotten her name completely). I feel like it suffered "Deathnote syndrome" in that regard.

I also thought that the 4 Divas fighting evil clones of themselves was pretty uninteresting and cliche. Again, it feels like they didn't really try with the villains for the final episode and it's a let down considering they have to follow Ragyo.

So all in all I thought it felt unnecessary. I thought the original ending wrapped things up nicely and I don't feel like this added anything significant.

For those who say they liked it I urge you to try watching the OVA right after rewatching Kill la Kill and see if you think it's a good direct follow up to the final episode. I personally didn't think so but your mileage may vary. In any other show the episode would have been pretty good, but I don't think it was good enough for the episode that ends Kill la Kill.

I'm inclined to agree with you if I'm honest. I still liked it. It's Kill la Kill so I'm bound to, but it was a pretty weak episode overall that felt like it was just sort of happening. I think it suffered by having an antagonist rather than it being a straight up send off. It still had some good moments, like the actual send off bits and the final bit of the fight, but I can't say they make up for it.

I agree with that, I think it would probably have been a stronger episode without an antagonist and just showing how all the characters are getting on after the events of the finale. In terms of action they weren't going to top having a final confrontation with Ragyo in space so the action obviously feels like a step down, and it feels like the show going out with a whimper instead of a bang. A "victory lap" for the characters probably would have ended the show better.

Then again, I feel like a lot of popular anime suffer from bad or forcefully overextended endings, so considering that this was just as single episode, and an OVA at that, I'd say it's definitely forgivable and it doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the series.
