Killing Floor or Left 4 Dead?

Pretty much the title. I want both games, but can only purchase one at the moment, with Saints Row 3 and Skyrim coming out. I'm a little more interested in Killing Floor, but I am not sure if It'll work on my computer, while the Left 4 Dead duology runs on source, an engine that has always worked flawlessly on my laptop. There is a two cent difference in the current sale, so that's not an issue.

Killing Floor runs on the Unreal engine, right? Are the graphics comparable to The Ball? If so, my computer cannot play that game correctly. Games like Dungeon Defenders, however, work without a hitch.
Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2's servers are still active, right? If not, there isn't a great deal of incentive to buy it.

Killing Floor is developed by the same publishers as The Ball, so I assume they use the same engine and have comparable graphics.

You'd probably be best posting this question on the Tripwire Interactive forums, as they'd probably be able to answer your question more thoroughly and possibly help you fix the problem you have running The Ball and Unreal Engine games.
