If it looked like there was no hope of living and I was going to be going through hell should I let myself live a little long, yeah I would take my life. It depends on how I would be able too. If I had a gun or a sharp weapon, I would use that, or if I could use a poison capsule. But if it realied upon me using some method that wasn't as quick or painless, then I won't try. Although martyring myself is also another reason why I would do it.

Normally though I wouldn't turn to suicide. I only see it as a last-ditch effort to avoid stuff like torture or a horrible existance.

Edit: And to those who say that suicide is for the weak. No it's not. Who's the one who's to afraid to take their own life, hmm? You are. You're too afraid of what might be waiting on the other side. These people have the courage to take their own life in sometimes very painful ways, so that others won't be hurt. That's pretty damn brave if you ask me.

Suicide is for self-absorbed whiners.
I would never do such a thing if I think it would cause someone grief.
god people like you piss me off. lets say your father is a solider in a vietnamese prison camp, he has bamboo shoved under his finger nails, his are teeth drilled down to the gum line and all while doing this they are breaking bones and he is given a shot at killing himself, you think he is a whiner because his family might be sad, you sir are self absorbed if you think he shouldn't kill himself.
Yes, guy, the first thing that comes to my mind in a gaming forum is people getting fucking tortured in a war that ended 35 fucking years ago. This argument could have only been cheaper if you used Godwin's law.
It makes no difference what time period your from if you are in EXTREME UNBEARABLE PAIN and you have a chance to end it you are not self absorbed, he simply wants to stop the pain. What do you think the family of him would want, for him to be tortured to death or to go out quickly....think about that one.

if death was coming soon, and it would hurt like hell if he comes in about ten minutes, why keep him waiting..
then again, i've decided not to die.
like never.
i think it cannot happen.
i can't figure out what happens if I just died.
I think it's a matter of personal beliefs, but i think my soul or whatever is too stupid to die out.
mmh
but i think I could. but i Think it will be like this guy:

Yes i would, but only in a 100% chance of death, an the death has to be painful. if those circumstances are meet than i will take the medication called bullet. However if it is one guy torturing me and i have the chance to shoot myself....just shoot the guy and i will be on my way.

Even if there was only the slightest chance ,no matter how infinitly small, that I could survive, I would suffer through any amount of pain for that.

No, suicide is a mortal sin in Christianity, you'd go to Hell for it.

However, I think the Bible's a little fuzzier on indirect suicide.

I wouldn't. I'd just think that there'd be some way out of it, some way I could carry on even if there wasn't actually any way.
Plus I probably wouldn't be able to kick my own bucket if I wanted to, me being such a pussy an' all.

I would take the less painfully route of dying, seeing as death is unavoidable.

Remember from the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy; if you find yourself in a situation where death is imminent with no hopes of escape, consider how lucky you are that life has been good to you so far.
If however, life has NOT been good to you (which considering your current predicament is more likely to be true) then consider how lucky you are that it won't be troubling you much longer.

Always loved that line.

Nope, if I'm going to die anyway what's the point? To avoid pain? If there's even the slightest chance of survival, I owe it to myself and anyone I'd leave behind to take that chance. Pain is never permanent. Death is.
This. Just this. Have a cookie sir.

Suicide is for cowards. Even if your life is at it's lowest. It will always get better. I know that from personal experience.

OT: In regards to the question; I would go down fighting/resisting torture or what ever, rather than kill myself.
Being friends with someone who just jumped in front of a train and killed himself...i have to say to you...i agree...but at the same time dissagree....who else but the Bravest/dumbest of people could kill them self...he gains my respect for being able to do it when i know (dont ask why i know) i could not...but loses just as much for not manning up and fighting whatever was in his way...because no matter what no matter how TERRIBLE your situation is...and even if it is going to get worse...there is someone out there who is enduring more than you are...dealing with everything you are AND some..and is fighting through it...and will not give up...and lets face it people..life is a competition are you going to let someone else beat you that easily?...by just giving up...giving in?... Sorry if i ranted a bit but...yeah strong feelings about this...

If the situation is absolutely unavoidable, then why bother. If it's not absolutely unavoidable (and so is everything), why bother again... there's a chance you may get saved... even a 1*10^-999 chance..

But immense pain will change my thinking, so no idea.

The world's imminent end is something I've thought a lot about, and if the world was going to explode or something, I definitely wouldn't kill myself. I don't want my death to feel painful, but I want to see death (in the explosion scenario, the world exploding isn't something I'd like to miss, no matter how depressing it would be). Also, I hate the catholic church but I don't really believe in suicide, you know, just in case.

If I was stuck in a terrible situation and there was an absolute 100% guarantee that I would die, then yes; better to die quick and painlessly by my own decision than, say, suffer an agonizing, humiliating death by starvation or torture. To say that ending your own life is always cowardly and pathetic is somewhat ignorant, because there are occasions in life when you need to get over your pride and values to think realistically and logically. (Come on, are you really going to give a shit about your self-respect when you're dead?)

That being said, if there was something like a 5% chance I would survive barging my way through a horde of ravenous zombies, then I'd think it better to do so and have at least a chance of survival than staying put with a definite guarantee of being devoured.

Also, depends on what is at my disposal. I wouldn't attempt to stab myself in the jugular with a spoon in any situation, for example.

^ Basically this goes for me as well!

Not gonna take my own life even if it means I will continue to suffer more. Call it Pride, but taking my own life is one of the biggest wrongs I could do to myself.
