I got thinking about Killzone 2. There hasn't been very much hype surrounding Killzone 3, in stark comparison to the enormous buildup the second game received. This most likely has to do with the amount of backlash the game got for the hype. Like overhyped films, hearing about it too much tends to make people hate things.

So, in retrospect, did Killzone 2 live up to the hype? Or did the hype sour your experience?

I actually first heard about Killzone 2 back in October '09, so I wasn't affected by the hype.

With that said, I thought it was spectacular. The only bad part was that it was very light on plot and character but tried to make us feel bad whenever a character died.

I never knew about the games at all until Yahtzee mentioned them in reviews, so uh, I guess I missed that hype train.

I didn't find Killzone 2 to be "overhyped" at all, since I was very pleased with the game. Quite simply: it delivered.

I do have a rather grim outlook on Killzone 3 though. I've learned that the developers thought that Killzone 2 was "too dark" storywise and that people in the game used too much foul language, and they are apparently striving towards a more "light hearted" story with Killzone 3 and tone down on the swearing.

Sounds like they are shooting for "kid friendly" to me. A story can NEVER be "too dark", especially not when it is supposed to be situated in a war-backdrop.

I hated Kilzone 2. Couldn't stand it. If there was any game to have "wonky" controls, this is it. It's a shame too because I thought it looked and sounded awesome from the trailers, commercials, and print media. When I finally got a PS3, that was the first game I got. I was so disappointed. I obviously feel like it was millions of miles away from coming close to the hype it got.
