However I do find it hilarious that people are complaining about this. They hate on Microsoft for their console, they hate the fact that they're shoving the Kinect down our throats. Now they delay it and it's a big deal. Now the Kinect won't be fully functional and we complain. We don't want the console, we don't want the Kinect, but when it's taken away from us we still get angry. Does anyone else see the analogy to a kid not getting his way here?
I do hope you're not talking about this website. Because most of the "complaining" is the fact that Microsoft is hedging its bets on a peripheral that isn't going to be fully functional for a good number of the countries that it launches in; Stating that they're pretty stupid for making such a move. Which is something I would agree with. If it can tell an American, Canadian, or Brit saying "Xbox, on!", why can't it tell an Aussie or Kiwi doing the same? And why is it a required peripheral to be bought with the Xbox One?

Otherwise, I'd imagine that most of the actual complaints about it being delayed are from, you know, different people than the ones railing on about however stupid Microsoft is being. I know it's pretty crazy to think these days what with all of the nontroversies over everything, but we aren't entirely a hive mind yet.

Soon...

OT: This makes me laugh. I love how, even after backpedaling on the initial train-wreck of a reveal they had, Microsoft is still finding more and more ways to exclude people from potentially buying their system.

I believe that is a scottish accent and that the Kinect will be fully functional for them.

But not for Irish, Australian and New Zealanders (apparently) due to issues with accents.

Yep.
Nope, Scotish isn't on the list, just English US/UK. Not English Irish, Scottish or Welsh.

Are you claiming that all the complaints on this site are reasonable and mature? Because if you are then I can't help laughing. The comments on this particular article, sure.

The statement said the countries that had full support included the United Kingdom which at this point still includes Scotland and Wales.

So yes those two on on the talk show who were speaking english with very heavy scottish accents will recieve full Kinect functionality.

So... it can understand an American or a Brit saying "Xbox on", but not an Irish, an Aussie or a Kiwi?

It can understand a German saying "Xbox on" (or however you say that in German), but not an Austrian?

...

How does that make any damn sense?
Are you serious? If so, neural networks or malkov chains from AI CS are the usual way to train a machine to understand language, well, they were couple years ago not sure if now. Now, new techniques are very good at recognizing patterns and deal with differences, still, if they listed UK and US and Esp and LA as different languages is because they are different enough that the developers need to do a whole new piece to deal with each one.

If you want to know more this vid seems decent enough http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-ZtArILrb8 or read the wiki or learn math. At any rate, it makes sense, a LOT of it.

The countries in which the "Xbox on" command isn't supported probably have laws against electronic devices that draw power when switched off, laws that won't allow the Kinect to operate in a passive, powered-on state.

To use your example, it's not that the Kinect won't understand "Xbox on" spoken in German with an Austrian accent, it's more to do with Austrian laws not allowing the Kinect remain operational in order to hear the "Xbox on" command when the Xbox One is switched off.

As a basic rule of thumb, if you can't buy a TV with a standby mode on the high-street in your country, then the "Xbox on" command won't be supported either (even though technically it does work).

So that explains Austria (I think), but not Australia or New Zealand...

Considering Australian and Kiwi are basically English (as in real english not American english) I have no idea. Typical dumb M$.
