So, with Microsoft going and releasing their device, Kinect, to try and cash in on the motion control/casual market, besides the lack of games, a lot of people have been complaining about its price.

The Xbox 360 is already $200-300 by itself, with Kinect being another $150 or so extra, making the whole price of the whole thing around $400, which is quite a hefty amount of money to part with. Well, it turns out, that each Kinect only costs about $56 to make, according to a Tech Analysis group.

This means that each Kinect is sold for massive profit towards Microsoft which is probably going towards getting the money back that they spent on that $500 million advertising campaign for the damn thing.

So, with that being said, for those who did buy it, how do you feel upon learning of the massive price difference?

And for those who don't, has this affected your view towards it at all?

Well, considering Kinect is basically eye toy which actually works (I mean if the Eyetoy actually worked well it would be almost as good as the kinect to look at it from a different perspecitve) , it makes sense to me it wouldn't cost that much more than 50 bucks to make each individual Kinect years later.

That said, didn't microsoft lose money on each 360? So they are maybe just trying to make up for prior losses.

But still, not worth it at all to me at the moment, maybe if some RPGS came out for it (how the heck they would work on it is another story all together) I would consider buying it.

Yeah, and just look at video games. DvD + packaging + transport costs what, 3$ to produce? and they flog them off at 59.99$? What a ripoff!
Right? Right? No of course not, completely foolishly wrong.

You aren't just paying for tech. There is a fair (see, a lot) bit of coding that goes into recognition technology development. You don't pay for the hardware as much as the money it cost microsoft to develop it.
Oh and of course giving microsoft a profit, which I feel they deserve for actually taking a plunge into making quite a helpful technological spike.

Microsoft ripping off their consumers? No way, that's like charging people to play online with their console.
