Yeah, but is this actual demand or manufactured demand?

Let me clarify, is this high demand due to consumers actually wanting Kinect, or did Microsoft not make enough systems out of caution or greed, creating a higher demand?
If that were the case then, there wouldn't be any in stock at retailers, which even the article said there were. So its more than likely not a manufactured demand. I mean c'mon, it even got the Oprah seal of approval, that's PR GOLD! (in the casual market, which is the intended demographic)
It got a seal of approval from Oprah!? Then, that's it! It's the Oprah effect! Not even a team of Mad Scientists could come up with something that insane and diabolical!

Yup! At the end of that certain episode, she gave all her audience members a Kinect/360 bundle. Oh and a copy of Kinect adventures and/or Kinect sports I believe. (can't remember which one it was)

Am I the only one who isn't really impressed? The Wii was going for as much as $700, while the PS2 (back when it was still only available in Japan) sometimes went up to a $1000.

Also, the fact that it is just the peripheral selling well on eBay and the fact that it's still in stock at retailers is a very bad sign for Microsoft. It means that it is primarily existing Xbox 360 owners who are buying it, not the expanded audience i.e. people who did not care about the console. Since the whole point of the Kinect was to draw an entirely new audience to the console, that bodes rather ill for Microsoft's plans.

There's that much of a demand really? I was able to walk into a Toys R Us in the middle of a city of over 175 thousand people the day after launch and pick one up with no trouble at all. And that was with getting a $30 gift card. Where is this mad craze at?

High demand? Really? You wouldn't be able to tell here in Washington, at least out here around Kitsap County. I saw three of them sitting in the case at WalMart last night (yesterday being black friday - basically the biggest shopping day of the year, I would expect to see none of them left).
