what's next, Kinect is sexist because...
women have boobs, which gives them a larger surface area.
which makes them easier to detect.
which makes the game easier for them.

OT: wow, so are they going to tell reality to change the laws of physics?
Well the article does state that people were CLAIMING that the Kinect was racist, but testing proved that it was room ambience and contract settings that were found to make tracking hard.

Considering the collective intelligence around the world... it doesn't hurt to try.

Well, whilst I doubt it's intentionally racist, it's still a pretty gigantic slip up that should have been identified in testing. Nicely done, Microsoft.
I doubt microsoft can bend the laws of light.
Darker colours reflect less light rather then lighter colours.
Fact.
...and? They don't NOT REFLECT. Black people aren't FRAKKING INVISIBLE. Therefore if it's that simple a problem, you up the sensitivity of the device so it compensates. Good grief. Can you imagine how different this thread would be if the system was calibrated on black people, and so the ENHANCED REFLECTIVE PROPERTIES of white people threw the system off and somehow rendered it effectively unplayable for white people? Do you really think it'd just be 'WHITE SKIN IS MORE REFLECTIVE. FACT. PUT UP WITH IT.' Somehow, I doubt it.

I can imagine it shouting

Yes. Because the Microsoft execs sat down around a table in 2008 and had this very conversation:

"Alright. We're going to design the most advanced form of motion-control technology and try to raise the bar for all of gaming. This is where the market appears to be going and we're going to be the pioneers. It will be the most advanced piece of gaming hardware available on any console."

"But not for black people?"

"Oh absolutely not for black people, because we hate them."

In Norway we have a term for certain electronic items: "White electronics" ("Hvitevarer" as we call them i Norwegian), these electronics are usually dishwashers, refrigerators and dryers. while we have another term for Televisions, radios and stereo-speaker systems. we call them "Brunevarer" or "Brown electronics".

So you see; the games technology isn't racist, your refrigerator is!

Microsoft now needs to tell people, in this age of political correctness, that you don't have darker skin! You're just the same as everyone else! This is insane, are we supposed to deny that black people do indeed have darker skin?

Everyone knows Microsoft is attracted to money. Black people are poor, so the Kinect ignores them.

But it will work on Black Muslims - Microsoft doesn't want to get bombed.

For those who didn't guess, the above post is not meant to be taken seriously.

Agreed, it's pure coincidence. Everyone gets so offended about that kind of stuff, even if it's really subtle and accidental

The Escapist: Where people can use the "IF YOU FLIPPED IT AROUND, NOONE WOULD CAAAAAAAAARE!" even when it makes not even the slightest bit of sense.

New game for all of you. It's called "Who Exactly Accused Kinect of Being Racist?"
Hint: You're not gonna find it in that article or the ones it links to.

Really as the earlier posted video pointed out, web cams have been doing this a while. There needs to be a way to calibrate the sensitivity if its not working on darker skin, that should have been done so black people don't have to return it saying "Sorry I'm far to black to be play this game."

Shows how much I know about modern technology. I didn't even think we had robots with emotions but, lo and behold, we have racist cameras.

The only way I can think of this being any reason to call it racist (and this is a very poor excuse by the way) is that it could concievably imply that no black people tested it before release. But yeah, this is just really dumb.

I say lets not use the word "racist". We hopefully can address this in a calmer smarter manner. "Racist" has been used improperly through "fear". Tell the company to stop being afraid and make the races as they are with multipule options. Also I see people as cowards for improper usage of the word and quite frankly it should be banned.
