What about people who don't have perfectly square rooms? Not everyone lives in America, some of us have shitty little houses with weird floor space
Truth has been spoken. And what about young children? They NEVER clear up their mess before playing consoles.

Does anyone else find Kinect and its producers shady? They keep using phrases like, "It's studying your floor" and "It's keeping track of you" with these almost-whisper gravel voices. The Kinect itself can look around with its swivel head, too!

Spy Kinect: infiltration, activate!

"too much noise near the sensor should all be avoided in order to get the optimal playing experience."

What? Like an XBOX 360! With that hard drive spinning at such a high rate, sounds like there's a helicopter in there some of the time.

Of course you get used to it, especially if you use headphones, but if the Kinect peripheral can't handle it. That would suck balls.

Even more proof that Kinect will not be successful.

Nobody is going to tidy their room in order to play a game O_O'
Unless they are REALLY bored :p

Hm. Good luck to Microsoft on this one...I can't imagine gamers are going to want to clean their rooms. Not that every gamer is a horrific slob, but I can imagine situations where it's just too messy for it to work and people just give up and play something else.

Has Sony jumped on this and said the Move doesn't require tidying yet?

It needs a lot of space, I don't know how big the average floor space of an American living room is but I can see that being an issue for a lot of people in several countries.
Why is everybody assuming that every American household is perfectly laid out for the Kinect? I know for a fact that my house isn't, nor is my friends, or anyone I know who has a 360, as a matter of fact. Microsoft isn't being biased towards American living rooms, they're being ignorant of EVERYONE'S living room. So shut up. Thank you.
The assumption is that Microsoft at least bothers to research the average living room in it's home nation. Ie: we assume some degree of competance.

I didn't say all American houses I said "the average" and "I don't know" I assume lots of houses in the US's of A are irregular but that in all the average is as Microsoft was showing.
I know that in THIS country a square large living room is not the average a rectangular medium sized room is.

And I've never seen a room that has all the furniture pushed to the back,.

What I'm trying to say is that nobody's house meets the suggestions/requirements set forth by Microsoft. Not even the "average American living room." I have never once seen a room like that.

Look, I won't exaggerate here like some of the others, as I believe this is a serious issue and there really is a problem with the product. They want us to buy Kinect and they tell us everything will be okay for their core player base, while at the same time they don't show us any games for their core player base, and they give a list of requirements that a large number of us can't work with.

For example: My sound comes from the TV, my TV is on top of a chest of drawers, and my bed is not even a metre away from the TV. The Kinect probably wouldn't even be able to see the floor because of this, rendering it useless if it requires the floor as a plane to base it's calculations off. It's too much hassle to have to move the Xbox out into the lounge or rumpus room to play it, even moreso to tidy up my sibling's messes. And it's even more hassle to have to move it back into my room when I want to play some other games that aren't suitable for my younger brother and sister to watch.

I was one of the few people who thought the Kinect sounded like a great idea when it was announced, and I was very skeptical of the Move. The Move impressed me though, and it will soon have a library of games with something for everyone. Kinect has not shown anything but party games. It will sell, but it will not be popular and there will likely be a large backlash against Microsoft after customers who were not aware of these issues beforehand (parents for example) realise that it's not at all what it seems.

About the voice command, will the european version have for example swedish commands? Because I would feel rather silly suddenly talking in english to turn on my kinect.

Haha I really love the advertising for the Move. I hope they make something along the lines of "The PlayStation Move does not judge you by the cleanliness of your home."

Wow look, an article that gives more people reasons to bash Microsoft. Especially since it doesn't take much for people to already dislike anything that comes out for 360 it seems, here's another reason to go ahead and say just why you weren't going to buy it anyway.
I really don't think Kinect is initially intended for most of us hardcore gamers anyway so why is this such a big deal to most of you? why take this as another opportunity to bash a piece of hardware you don't even want? How does it affect you if you're not going to buy it?
At any rate, I'm pretty sure Kinect is also intended to have a lot of space to be used, such as in a living room setting. I also think its perfectly reasonable given the limits of a new technology such as this that having your room squared away isn't such a big deal. Seriously if you're complaining about having to clean up after yourself to play with your kinect, then you're really perpetuating the "dirty" gamer stereotype that most people hate on or hate being called...
Why bash it? Because Microsoft has made it clear that they are relying on their core audience to buy it first to generate the hype for it and bring more of the casual market over. They also tell us that there will be games for their core gamers to buy but they haven't shown us one yet, everything is party games. If they didn't market it to us at all I think they'd just get the usual trashtalking that everyone gets. But the fact is they're telling us we'll like it when there is nothing in the way of proof.

Probably an over reaction. Not that I'm getting one anyway, but its not because of this.

It's like Microsoft has become Mrs Passive-Aggressive Nanny:

"no games till this room is spick and span"

The amount of FUD being thrown around in this thread is palpable. You guys really think that Microsoft doesn't have the money to fully research and test this stuff? A lot of projects in the labs there are discarded, even after a very long time incubating. See the Courier.

Sure, it won't work if you've got a pile of garbage in your gaming area. I find it hard to believe that you couldn't easily kick it to the side. I know that I'll have to move some things out of the way to accommodate the Kinect. That's just the way it is when you've got to move to make the game react.

My comment that I put on Youtube under that video applies to all the naysayers here as well.

Keep a clean open room like a normal person and you will be fine.
