So the Kinect has been out for some time and there are two games I'm kinda interested in. The first is Rise of Nightmares, although by the looks of it you can't run and the game looks to be quite slow paced. The other is Eden.

Finally there's the up and coming 'Crimson Dragon' (as spiritual sequel to the Panzer Dragoon games) which is looking rather lovely.

Thing is, Kinect is still £100, which is a lot, even if most of the titles are about £10. There doesn't appear to be that many games for it either, and nothing major being released outside the casual, gimmicky Zumba games, etc.

So has anyone here actually bought the Kinect, or had a lot of time with it, able to discuss whether it's a good purchase, whether there's much to look forward to in the future, or if anyone has anything to say about the above mentioned games (Nightmares in particular)?

You mention the price in £, so I'm assuming you live in the UK in which case - be careful. The Kinect seemed to be designed with massive American living rooms in mind, and how close it looks like you can play is quite frankly bullshite in the adverts. Found out the hard way and ended up having to spend even more on some zoom correcter to actually use the damn thing.

Can't say I've noticed much lag, although it does have a habit of being abit off with detected what your actually doing at times (I suspect this will get fixed in time). Haven't played Eden so I can't comment on that, but Rise of Nightmares was quite fun - you're correct in saying it's quite slow, but I found it needed to be because of how some of the mechanics work. It's just a pity it's because much one of the only non-fitness/aimed at kids/dance based games that actually seems any fun.

I did not play Child of Eden so my opinion on that one does not exist.

However, Rise of Nightmares is not very good. I won a copy of it in the Escapist contest and it had a lot of potential but it fell flat on it's face. Maybe you would be OK with the game-play mishaps but I could not get over walking in that game.

There really is no good "Gamer" games out there for it yet. Child of Eden I've heard is very experimental and OK at best but again, no first hand experience. Dance Central is a blast but not really a "game" game...

I do mean to try Mass Effect 3 with the Kinect but I sincerely doubt it'd be worth the investment for just that.

I purchased the Kinect for my exercise game (UFC ultimate trainer) which I am very happy with.

EDIT: I haven't seen much problem with lag. It seems pretty close to 1:1 to me...

Only if you have enough uncluttered space for it. When its working properly, its great. When its not working properly, it doesn't float for long.

For the amount of games offered, to me it was a waste of money. for the few good games, they get boring quick and are always laggy. But on the other hand its fun when you have friends over or having a party.

I don't mess with the Xbox or really any consoles but I got to play with the kinetic and Mass Effect 3. The dialog support was kind of stupid, but I liked commanding the team with voice controls, so much I sort of wished I could do it on the computer. No idea how it would hold out, for long game sessions. My guess is it would get old.

The ok games so far are:
The dancing games
Rise of Nightmare
The Gunslinger
Haunt

And for kids its great with

Double Fine Happy Action Theater (it's fun with drugs and alcohol too)
Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster
Kinect: Disneyland Adventures

And Minecraft will use Kinect so that might be cool, Steel Battalion is also using Kinect.

For now the Kinect doesnt look all that worth it, but the technological advance that came with it made it's existance worth it, I think. While the Move for the PS3 looks like it works better and is more usefull for a broader arrange of games it doesnt do anything original with its tech.

Kinect?

Ehheaughauhhamaybeidontknowwhatdoesitdo?

It makes a good dust magnet?

Okay okay, it's good but I still wonder what use it has in video games in the long run aka attached to a 2D monitor pretending it's 3D.

It could be wroth it if more developers were willing to give it a go, but the few games it does have are fun especially with friends.

Hmm, by the sounds of it's, it's not worth the £100 it's selling for. It's a pity, because it's been for sale for a while now, and yet there just doesn't seem to be many games for it. Maybe I'll wait another couple of months/ a year and see if there's more going for it, or it's cheaper.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.
