Doesn't affect me since I'm in the U.S., but I can see how other regions might be pissed. I don't think it's a huge deal, because most of the software titles that the Kinect will be trying to prove itself with won't be the launch titles, but those later titles that come out in the last half of 2011 or early 2012. Besides, there's probably a reason for the region limitations for now - don't see why everyone here's looking at it so black & white.

What the fuck is up with all this localization stuff? Every time something new comes out, we who do not live in the US, UK or Japan have to wait. Why? What is the problem with letting the rest of Europe use voice recognition? Don't they want to release the feature until they've developed it for each country's language? I'm fine with using English: I've had to use English through my entire gaming career. Why do I, if I wish to buy Kinect, have to buy a handicapped product? Would it really kill them to just release the same product in all regions, instead of intentionally breaking it before selling it to those us who do not live in the largest countries in the world?

And considering the fact that I live in a country with less than 5 million inhabitants, we will probably be some of the last people to receive the feature.

I guess it doesn't matter to me, since I'm not going to buy it at launch, but it still pisses me off.

Seems Microsoft saw the limited appeal, and figured hey, why don't we make it MORE limited? You know, make it one of those hard-to-get things where people want it just because they can't have it?

Sure they say now that they'll keep adding support, but that's the same claim they made about backwards compatibility. But here I am with a large stack of unplayable games (or in Panzer Dragoon Orta's case, playable for 2 levels).

Slightly distracted there, but the past is relevant in estimating the future. (Note: I have a slight grudge against Microsoft for taking all my money without warning me, then suspending my account when I couldn't pay any more. Possible bias on my part.)

Then again, maybe I'm just holding the 'leaders of the industry' to too high standards. Anyway, off to Steam I go!

You know, back when this thing was still Project Natal, my cousin explained it to me. It sounded super cool! As I continue to learn more and more about this, I continue to grow more disappointed. (Ready for the hate? I am.) *sigh* I guess Microsoft should just stick to making Operating Systems and keep away from the gaming community...

The answer is simply to just not buy it until the voice support is released. That way you can see what sort of games are coming out for it and also maybe pick it up cheaper.

This doesn't make any sense. I'd understand if they just had a smaller amount of available languages at launch, but to restrict regions is just awful. Microsoft is just saying; we'll get around to it, in the meantime we just don't want you to have the full experience because some users wouldn't be able to enjoy it.

Screw that, I can speak English, gimme my voice recognition.

This is a really stupid move. If i were to get a Kinect, I most certainly want all it's features available from the start.

I don't care if I have to speak English because I and everyone else in Sweden knows English. I most certainly don't want to speak Swedish to my Kinect after all these years of English in games, Swedish just sounds stupid in games to me.

Not that I would buy even if it featured every single language and farted diamonds.

Maybe because it has trouble with the other accents, and they don't want the public perception of it to be damaged?

Anyone else get the feeling that, in 10 years, Kinect will feature on one of those Gamespot "10 worst console add-on" lists?

You mean like it's limited in all other categories it's supposed to be good in? Yeah, I can see where this is coming from.
