You mean kittening? SeaKittening?
No PETA Allowed here. They eat Kitteh souls.
What's wrong with people eating tasty animals?!
Do you even have to ask? Eating kittens is horrible! You bad, bad person. Shame on you.
Just because they are cute. I think eggs are cute. They make funny noises (and a mess) when you cuddle them.

Don't be a killjoy dick.

We're having fun. See the glee.

:)
I wasn't being a killjoy! It's a funny comic strip. I love kittens...
Meh the comic implied it though. You shall be forgiven then.

Now go eye the kittehs!
The comic is about the intoxicating effect the feline race has on humans. As is clearly demonstrated in this topic. No one can look at a kitten and not be smitten with adoration for it.

I thought it looked more like it was stating that a love for kittens makes people stupid.

No, see the line is labeled "Human Proximity to Cat", not "Human Affection for Cat". It's like BAC. Just liking alcohol won't make you drunk, but if you drink enough of it your intelligence and coherence will drop. Except that with kittens, there's no hangover the next morning. :)

Still getting closer to the cat makes your intelligence drop, as allegedly stated by the graph.

Well, even feigning interest, I cannot abide the fact that kittens are intruding upon my Escapism.
Why not?
I'll correct you with "Well, Why Not?" which means you either abide my statement, or "Why?" which asks why I don't appreciate them.
I don't appreciate them because I thought this website was about intellectualism and respect for [a] learnéd (at least partially) individual. And I will describe the upcoming eventation of Image Macros of cute cats randomly as outright Pollution of the aforementioned website atmosphere.
It's like the Google ads all over again.

I stand corrected, I should have asked 'Why?"
Well this is still an intellectual site, but even the most intellectual people on earth act a little loony to stay sane.
Also The links to pictures of kittens seemed to me to be restricted to just one thread. Now there's also this thread in which one single kitten pic has been posted by NewClassic (apart from the OP, but I consider that one justified because it is in order with the thread.

Finally I wish to add that there is far worse 'pollution' of this site going on right now than just a few kittens.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more learned group of folks than the ones in this office, and I assure you, we all go stupid over cute things. There's absolutely nothing wrong with adding a little silliness to the conversation, nor does it make the volumes of intelligent discussion that take place on this site any less meaningful or significant. It doesn't demean anyone to celebrate the adorable or the absurd.

Umm, lighten up man. This is an off topic thread. If you think this thread is as bad as "Google Ads" then don't continue to read it.

Also, intelligence and appreciation of cute things can go hand and hand. Even the learned like kittens.

I concur.
I don't think intellectualism is synonymous with a 'Buzz Killington' attitude. Kittens can be adorable, and a delightful distraction, regardless of how 'learned' one is. To say anything less just seems to reek of a pretentious, pompous, and perhaps insecure, attitude that is far more interested with how other people view them and/or an outdated traditionalistic view of 'intellectualism'.

At an anonymous request, I've been commissioned to create a cat macro specifically for this situation. As such, it's a little bit off of the beaten path for my usual posting style, but I find no harm in indulging in one single moment of obscurity [http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9615/hugkittenea8.jpg]. (Though, I will admit it took a lot more effort to be grammatically correct than I would have liked.)

On topic, I find that the increase in number of kittens is hardly a damper upon the usual quality found on the Escapist. If anything, I find the kittens are a harmless aside in a larger theme of things. Granted, this thread is a bit of a hop, skip, and jump away from our usual discussion, but so were the MGG RP, Duck Thread, and Cockney Thread, which all existed prior to the influx of kittens.

Simply put, 'Metis, it seems a bit like you're upset by the kittens. For that, I'll gladly apologize. I didn't mean to upset anyone by my kitten hyperlinks. Though aside from the Escapist Mystery, this thread, and "I like a girl who..." thread, it's been rather tame. If it continues to happen, I'll cease kitten pictures, and the world will once again be at peace. Apologies that it bothers you, but I honestly still don't see the harm in it.

Beyond that, as far as the pollution goes... Frankly, the site's already changing face a lot faster than it ever has. Easykill made a thread about my generation coming in and screwing the place up, lately I've made about this generation coming in and mucking about in this place, and in less than a year, another one of the now new members will be complaining about their influx. I don't think it's as easy to point the accusatory finger and any one thread or poster, nor any one meme.

So, apologies for bothering you. But you're cool persons Anarch, and if you really think it should stop, I'll gladly do so.
