So a while back I was freaking out because the site ShiftyLook [http://www.shiftylook.com/] was going to be posting a weekly webcomic based on one of my favourite gaming properties (uh, Klonoa, that is.) Anyway, the comic [http://www.shiftylook.com/comics/klonoa/dreams-and-adventures] has now been going for a little while, so here are my thoughts on it:

First, the artwork is awesome. Not surprising, as this is true of pretty much all ShiftyLook's comics. It's clear, colourful and detailed, and some of the designs you see are very cool indeed. I even ripped my avatar from the first update.

As for the writing, well... it's, uh... okay, it's pretty bad. Much as I hate to say it, I've been really disappointed with what's been seen so far. The pace is a bit too hectic - particularly at the beginning - and the writing feels patronizingly childish, like something intended to be read aloud in a first-grade classroom. I know the Klonoa games aren't exactly Les Miserables in terms of subject matter but one of the things I liked about them was the subtle darkness of tone and subject matter woven underneath the outwardly bright and exuberant appearance. They respected the audience, so it's a shame the comic doesn't seem to be able to do the same.

But hey, things are still relatively early, so I'll remain hopeful. Has anyone else been keeping up with ShiftyLook's Klonoa? And if so, what are your thoughts on it? Am I off the mark on this one?
