I do it all the time with every part of my body.

Back, sides, shoulders, elbows, neck, wrists, fingers, toes, and knees.

Oh, and that happens all the time.

Just stop trying to crack it. Wait a little while then try again.

Never been able to crack my knuckles myself, but I've had the same feeling in my hand last year. I actually had to get hand therapy and my finger (the same one as yours, coincidentally)was better about two months later.

I have that problem, 'cept it's my middle left finger, and this only happens because I broke that finger. Ever since it hasn't cracked and one of the bones juts out a little.

I do it a bit too much, and I should probably stop. But god is it satisfying.

Cracking any joint is just releasing gas bubbles from between your joints, which actually loosens them up and improves flexibility, without any notable side effects, except maybe a slight pain. The popping sound is a gas bubble exploding in your joint and forcing the bones apart loosening them up, the bigger the gas bubble, the louder the crack. I've noticed that if your hands are cold (or you just cracked them a second ago) your knuckles have a much harder time cracking because the gas doesn't form into bubbles as easily. The popping sound is a gas bubble exploding in your joint and forcing the bones apart loosening them up, the bigger the gas bubble, the louder the crack.
