An interesting interview with Kojima on the newest title in the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

Personally, I have no idea how this game will turn out. Please, discuss!

I think he finally admits that mgs4 isn't the next coming of christ as some have been saying? I was more interested in the wii mario kart review on that site btw, boy has that franchise gone down hill.

Anti-fanboy anyone? Christ now I want it more just to spite this dick, and really, as long as the story is still freaking awesome, there is no problem with me.

Really this isn't an insult to the game...it's an insult to Sony for once again overhyping the PS3's power capabilities.

Quoted from Wikipedia

Controversy - Capabilities

Before the PS2 was even released in Japan, there were controversies over the capabilities of the PS2. Japan initially imposed export restrictions on the PS2. The PS2 was even said to contain parts, especially its powerful graphics hardware, which could be used to simulate the effects of military ballistic missiles.

Not to sound like an arse, but I think Sony might be a little worried about this interview. After all, MGS4 is supposed to be the game this year that shows what the machine is truly capable of. If Kojima then starts telling journalists how his team over-estimated the PS3's capabilities, it doesn't do a lot for people's estimations of the thing.
Oh well, at least fanboys can stfu. Right now a big majority of them believe that as soon as you insert the MGS4 disc, your PS3 will turn into a huge Super-Citadel-Tripod and crush other consoles.

I'd laugh if the "uber game" the whole console relies on turned out to be a flop.Very Ironic, isn't it?

If MGS 4 does horrible sales wise....then that would confirm teh PS3 just doesn't have the instal base needed for devs. Same with FF13. If that game bombs than same thing.

Kojima is renowned for being too hard on himself. He said he expected more form almost all of his games and with the exception of possibly MGS 2 they were all absolute masterpeices.

I don't hate PS3...it's Sony's hypocrisy and fanboys who claim that PS3 will win "the war" as soon as MGS4/FF13 comes out that's pissing me off.

Hideo said at the start that game-wise MGS4 is well Solid(pun intenned) but being a "Prefectionist" the graphics are great and realistic but he thought he could do BETTER than that.

Basiclly i don't think he's saying it's a failure but maybe it's still a 10/10 or maybe 9/10 but if it was what it was the way he really wanted it it would be 15/10 compared to what we will be able to play when it comes out

And now my interest for the game just got picked even more so, in contrary to if he just said the game was amazing and great like every other company tends to say about their own creations. Specially since if it's true, I get to see the limits of the PS3 early on plus if this didn't meet the standards of Hideo, then I'll be stunned when I play the game and keep wishful for the future when such hardware follows his vision.

The thing that fascinates me about this game is that you play an old man. Yeah, you're Snake, but still. In the trailers I've seen it looks like they're making a point about dealing with his age, back problems, and relying on the muscle suit to stay competitive.

I've never, ever, seen a game where you played a character like that. I've kicked butt as a twelve year old kid, gunned down endangered species as a big breasted sociopath, and have lost count of how many twenty-somethings I've played on a trigger happy rampage. But an old man, dealing with disillusionment and shattered idealism? That's revolutionary enough for me.

I take it none of the people saying "OMG SONY iss worried cuz they overhyped IT!!!!" have ever actually tried to make anything important to you in your lives. Kojima is one of those people that actually values his work, I would say that he is the anti-Itagaki; both of these men believe strongly in their games although Itagaki will typically come out and say my game will destroy all others.

I love reading Itagaki interviews. The man is so unintentionally hilarious. I remember with 1UP they were talking to him about the DS Ninja Gaiden game.

"Yes, you may have noticed that in all of my games the controls are perfect. That's because it is my will. Other games, the controls are weak and girly. I decided to make a DS Ninja Gaiden game would be the ultimate challenge, because the controls are very easy to use. Now I have made a game that is both perfect and easy to use." *paraphrasing*

or when he was challenging all of North America to a DOA tournament.

I think Kojima is being canny by downplaying expectations for the game. Or am I just being over-optimistic?

I say kojima thinks exactly the opposite of what he says. I think he's not disappointed. I think that this interview is for us to say "wow. kojima disappointed with mgs4?!" when the game gets a 10/10. I think it's an elaborate hype scheme.

I think i have a chip on my back telling me what to say, and that the aliens want my leg.

Metal Gear Solid has always been a sublime game series, and has definitely been one of the (MANY) reasons to stay loyal to Sony through Disk Read Errors and the PS3s downright embarassing early days.
I have no doubt that MGS4 will be goddamned awesome, and will definitely make every PS3 owner know that they made the right choice to not go with the jet turbine called a 360.
You're playing your cute overhyped FPS game, we're playing a series that more or less single-handedly created a new genre.

PS3 fanboy? No. I realize that the PS3s earlier months were...stunningly bad. And the exclusives so far have been good to great, but nothing people jizz all over each other for (unlike the giant curse-filled circle wank that is, say, Halo 3. Or the blue-skinned prostitute-filled gender equality-setbacking mess that is Mass Effect).
But y'know what? A few good games can, and will, change that. And I believe that MGS4 and to a slightly lesser degree Final Fantasy 13 will be great, stunning games.
So far, I've found myself playing my PS2 and PSX games about as much as my PS3 games. I think that might change, come summer.

Kojima disappointed with MGS4? Well, he's stated that he's disappointed with every MGS so far, more or less. Because he wants more, more, MORE. Every single game, the same routine. "We need better hardware to truly fulfill my vision of the ultimate motherfucking sneaking game". He's been saying it since Metal Gear for the NES. But y'know what? All his games are fucking sublime, no matter how much he beats himself down for not making THE ONE GAME TO RULE THEM ALL. (Despite that, to many, he's made the one FRANCHISE to do just that.)

And anyone who giggles over that he says it's not revolutionary and that he could've done better...eh. Metal Gear Solid was a revolutionary game. If MGS4 isn't, at least it can be a great motherfucking game.

So, does this mean he'll finally see the light and turn his bloody studio finally over to the likes of Microsoft, away from the illusions of grandeur which have preoccupied him and Sony for what? The past three years?
