Metal Gear Solid has always been a sublime game series, and has definitely been one of the (MANY) reasons to stay loyal to Sony through Disk Read Errors and the PS3s downright embarassing early days.
I have no doubt that MGS4 will be goddamned awesome, and will definitely make every PS3 owner know that they made the right choice to not go with the jet turbine called a 360.
You're playing your cute overhyped FPS game, we're playing a series that more or less single-handedly created a new genre.
PS3 fanboy? No. I realize that the PS3s earlier months were...stunningly bad. And the exclusives so far have been good to great, but nothing people jizz all over each other for (unlike the giant curse-filled circle wank that is, say, Halo 3. Or the blue-skinned prostitute-filled gender equality-setbacking mess that is Mass Effect).
But y'know what? A few good games can, and will, change that. And I believe that MGS4 and to a slightly lesser degree Final Fantasy 13 will be great, stunning games.
So far, I've found myself playing my PS2 and PSX games about as much as my PS3 games. I think that might change, come summer.
Kojima disappointed with MGS4? Well, he's stated that he's disappointed with every MGS so far, more or less. Because he wants more, more, MORE. Every single game, the same routine. "We need better hardware to truly fulfill my vision of the ultimate motherfucking sneaking game". He's been saying it since Metal Gear for the NES. But y'know what? All his games are fucking sublime, no matter how much he beats himself down for not making THE ONE GAME TO RULE THEM ALL. (Despite that, to many, he's made the one FRANCHISE to do just that.)
And anyone who giggles over that he says it's not revolutionary and that he could've done better...eh. Metal Gear Solid was a revolutionary game. If MGS4 isn't, at least it can be a great motherfucking game.
