KOTOR 1 and 2. Which first?

My friend has kindly let me keep his copy of KOTOR 2 after i asked him because of all the praise it gets from RPG lovers on this forum. I haven't played the first though and was wondering if i should get it before playing the second game. Plus, the mechanics from what i've played so far are a bit confusing and things seem a bit slow. I'm playing on the Xbox 360.

Well, I played KOTOR 2 first so.....well. My comments would probably be....jaded since I played that Mind-fuck of a game when I was 10. So....yeah. Just consider that endgame is extremely broken, and KOTOR 1 ending hits you more emotionally. Especially the Dark Side ending. I'm thinking that combat and gameplay is the same. More powers on 2 and it has a darker atmosphere. HK-47 is really funny on the second one though.

2 builds on the complexity of 1 (the crafting gets broadened, for example) so it's easier to learn 1->2. 2 also calls back to characters and events from the first, and while you don't *need* to know then, it helps the enjoyment.

I've only played the first, but found it really good. The guy who lent it to me refused to lend me the sequel because, as he said, "You don't want it. Trust me on this"

First one first. Second is, like already mentioned, good at the start... but a lot of things got cut at the end (ending is pretty much ruined). Hm... there were some restoration projects out there, but of course not for XBox.

If you can play KotOR before KotOR 2. It is not necessary but it helps.

Regarding the game mechanics: They are based on the D20 rule set (the same as the D&D 3.5 tabletop game and Neverwinter Nights) and might as such be a bit confusing if you don't know about the basis. Just remember: Higher is better.

Definitely play the 1st one. And for 2, get the PC version and download the updates and mods. KotOR 2 is a damn epic game, unfinished. There are mods around that add in the rest of the game which the developers left out. Lost my link though, sorry..

Never played either on my 360 though. It plays nicely on a PC. If not I guess its not an issue.

The number 1 comes before the number 2 - I think the choice is pretty clear.

I played 2 first but TRUST ME play 1 first

other wise you:

1. wont get storyline in 2
2. when you go back to 1 after 2 you will miss the small features they added

I played one on xbox one of PC dont think it really matters. but they are definately designed to be played 1 then 2.

Play #1, read the Let's Play of #2 as it will fill in a WHOLE lot of cut content that will make the sequel make a lot more sense. I don't think playing #2 is all that necessary - I haven't, but I still think the writing in #2 is some of the best I've ever seen in a game. But definitely play #1

Restored content mod. Annoyed now.. I found it a few days ago but just closed the page today as I didn't think I would need it. Just google it, sure its easy to find.

I'd say play the original first. There are a few elements story-wise that will improve from it.
