KOTOR 2: converting your companions

I've started playing KOTOR 2 for the second time now, wanting to try a Dark Side character. I remember when I played the first time (as Light Side) that you can convert some character to jedi. I've been trying to do this the other way around, as in turn them into sith. It doens't work very well, because I don't have much influence with some characters due to being manipulative ass. I even picked the Sith Lord prestige class because it supposedly would let me manipulate my companions better. I read somewhere that to convert them to dark side you actually should lose infuence with them, but I couldn't find any conformation on that.

So, my question is: does anyone here know how to convert my companions to sith?

p.s. On a side note: the alignment of my companions seems to fluctuate from time to time. Sometimes they register as dark side, but when I take them out they return to their previous alignment. For example: on the Ebon Hawk the party screen showed Bao-Dur as Dark Side, but outside the ship he was back at neutral. Also happened with Atton, T3 and Disciple. Seems like a bug. Anyone know a fix for it?

Not a bug, just requires a lot of effort to bring them round to it. Some characters willingly join in with the dark times, but others just need you to constantly wear them down. I'm told that there's a certain line of dialogue you can take with most of them at some point in the game that breaks them all down to you alinment in about ten conversations. Boring an a game breaker, but it's a quick solution.

Well keep in mind that KOTOR 2 is just naturally a VERY buggy game. I don't remember whether you should be paying more attention to allignment outside the ship or inside the ship. Regardless, the best way to convert people to the dark side is to just bring them with you constantly and side with them in any argument. Keep in mind that you will earn some Light Side points in the process, but it's the only way.

Yeah, pretty much this.

Your real problem will be converting Bao-Dur.

I remember it took me 3 playthroughs before I found out how to convert him.
(You have to basically have him in your party all the time)

You don't have to actively do it; I think they become all infected look as you do. As far as I remember.

EDIT; also I hope you're using the community patch!!!!! I mean, it actually puts in the stuff that they cut last minute, and gives you the real ending of KOTOR2

If you're playing dark side unfortunately the only way to gain influence with good companions is to do things that they think is right, hence gaining influence with them. Find situations where you can support their ideas and opinions.

Community patch? Haven't heard of it. I've updated the game with the last official patch from the website, but I think you're not talking about that one, correct? Does it work with existing games? What does it include?

It seems having a character in the party while doing my evil shifts their alignment. I've read a high charisma in conversations helps and I've noticed a good amount of Awareness is handy. But what I'm really interested in: can I make the characters Dark Jedi when I push them to Dark Side, or do I need to get influence, push them towards Light Side if needed, make them Jedi and then push them to Dark Side? Can I even make them Jedi if I'm Dark Side myself?

It's not a bug, it's just difficult. Trying to convert 'everyone' is nearly impossible. I'd suggest just picking 2 or 3 companions you enjoy and working at getting them converted.

I'd highly suggest also downloading and restarting a game with this mod as well. It's called the Restored Content mod, go figure, and... well... it restores a whole slew of content that was originally cut from the game because the developers just didn't have enough time to finish it all. It's still only a beta, but having played through the game using it I can say it's worth the download. Buggy, but the plot makes more sense, the characters are better implemented, the game more complete. Great stuff all around, I doubt I could play the game again without!

That trailer looks very nice. Seems worth it starting a new game over. I hope it is, because I'm through half the game now and it would suck major donkey-dick if I started all over for a few minutes of extra content. Is this the same patch Sneaklemming spoke of?

If you're looking to gain influence, generally agreeing with whatever they say in conversation works. If you're looking for specifics, below is what I usually do.
For the purpose of this, I recommend going to Nar Shaddaa first once you leave Telos.
There are spoilers here, but I'm guessing that doesn't bother you - the spoiler tags are more to avoid a rather epic Wall O' Text.
<spoiler=Atton>In general, avoid trying to Force Persuade him. He doesn't like it.

On the Harbinger, when he says he has a bad feeling, say "we'll have to be careful".

On Telos, kill the receptionist at the Exchange hideout with both him and Kreia in your party, Kreia gives you an earful and Atton gains influence automatically.

At Atris' place, before you free your companions, ask a Handmaiden Sister (not the one that can join you) where your party is - she'll mention Atton's Echani training. Once you get to the Ebon Hawk (but not before) ask him about it, and during that conversation say "I was just asking, no harm meant". This pops up twice in the dialogue tree - make sure you don't pick the one with [Persuade] before it.

When you hear his thoughts (with Kreia's help), ask him why he plays pazaak in his head. Admit to hearing his thoughts and apologise.

On Nar Shaddaa, make sure you bring him with you into the Refugee Sector. Two people will approach you and say they know him, either as thanks for the good you've done or for a few credits. Ask him about it, and in the last of the following conversations (the one about the last Jedi he killed) when the option "Jedi lies" appears, select that if you want him to be a Dark Jedi.

If by then you don't have enough influence to open up those conversations, head to the Serroco side of the sector before you kill off the Red Eclipse goons and install the navigational interface into the airspeeder. When unlocking the controls, he'll offer to do it for you. Let him.
<spoiler=Bao-Dur>In general, do nice things while he's around. Make sure to talk to him every time you gain influence.

On Telos, after freeing the party from Atris' prison, when he apologises for blacking out tell him there's nothing to apologise for.

On Nar Shaddaa, the second time you find two thugs accosting a refugee, the Dark Side option of Force-persuading the thugs to jump into the nearby pit gains influence with him for some reason.
Also on Nar Shaddaa (before killing the Red Eclipse goons), once you've fixed the airspeeder, have him check it - he'll make it run better. Thank him.

On Dantooine, take him with you when doing the "atmospheric sensors" sidequest. When you find them, either let him crack one open to have a look (compliment his work when you're done) or crack one open yourself. When returning the sensors, point out the "surprise" inside them and refuse the extra reward.
<spoiler=Disciple>If you're light side, one conversation should do it - just stay pro-Republic and agree with him.

However, if you're dark side I think it's easier to lose influence with him. Losing influence unlocks conversation paths just like gaining it, as long as you only do one or the other. Just be evil. Also, losing influence with him if you're dark-side makes him more light-side, so you'll end up with a decent healer at the end of it.
<spoiler=Handmaiden>Most importantly, spar with her for the first time before Visas appears - the best time would be right after she joins you since you're on the Ebon Hawk anyway. If you don't, then Kreia gets her claws in and she won't open up to you.

Also, after the first sparring session, put your clothes back on and ask her to do the same. This opens up the conversations about her mother - try to be nice to her. Talking to Kreia about it gives you another one.

You can spar with her at levels 10, 14 and 18 - the third time, she should ask you to train her if your influence is relatively high.
<spoiler=Mira>First off, ask her why she doesn't kill people. If your Awareness is high enough, you can make a comment about life being connected. Doing so will piss her off but won't lose influence - go back and apologise.

Then go through all the available conversations (leaving "You seem restless" until last - note that this conversation only pops up on the Ebon Hawk). Be nice, and she should eventually let you take her to the central pit near the landing pad on Nar Shaddaa. Circle the pit until you automatically stop and follow that conversation.
As for the companions that either can't become Jedi or already are:
G0-T0 is pro-Republic, so you should be too when talking to him. Selfishness and ruthlessness go down well too.
Hanharr and HK-47 respond well to any generally evil/psychotic behaviour. There's also a bug (which may by now have been patched, but I'm not sure) where when you break Hanharr's will, giving him +2 Strength and -2 Intelligence, you can do it over and over. Keep going until his Intelligence drops below zero and it'll shoot up to around 250, giving him a ludicrous amount of skill points at level-up, in addition to being incredibly strong.
Kreia likes it when you agree with her, and manipulate people without doing anything overtly light-side or dark-side. When she complains about your companions (particularly Handmaiden and Visas) tell her you're only keeping them around because they're potentially useful.
Mandalore likes it when you openly side with General Vaklu on Onderon, and also when you kill people for kicks.
T3-M4: be nice. That's about it.
Visas likes it when you're nice to her (even if she doesn't sound too pleased) and also when you kill random NPCs. She's weird like that.

I, unitentionally, got most of my companions to be the same allignment as me. It tends to be easier when your darkside. The lightest companion I had when I was darkside was bao-dur because you could hardly talk to him. So just play it through a couple times and you will pick up on a couple things.

I understand how to gain influence with them and I did that with my Light Side character. It was a while ago, but I remember turning Bao-Dur and Mira into Jedi (probably Disciple as well, don't remember) and converted Visas to Light Side, helping her find her good side and all. If I want to do that the other way around, I'm supposed to take a beating with Light Side points first?

So, am I correct in thinking that you answered my earlier question about first needing to turn them into Jedi by being nice to them, and then dragging them down with me in the Dark Side? My goal here is to create more Sith in the party, not just gain their trust.

Anyway, thanks for the overview of gaining influence. It will still come in handy.
