I'd just like to point out to those who didn't even read the article - it says massively multiplayer COMPONENT. This in no way makes the game an MMO - Bioware would not take their pride and joy and turn it into an MMO unless they were still planning on the predominantly single player element being present, OR in releasing KOTOR3 separately themselves.

Despite the whoring influence of EA, all it would take is to look at the figures for the first KOTOR (i.e. the one Bioware actually made) and they'd realise the single player alone could be a cash cow to milk for the next decade.

So no, either KOTOR3 will be released separately, or this is most likely an MMO feature, maybe some kind of mass PvP, or even something really lame like character trading.

Yea, If they make a persistant world, and don't make blasters suck so hard against a jedi, I'd do it.

Hopefully if they do this they'll do it right and not make it a WoW clone, damn SOE killed a great MMO in Star Wars Galaxies trying to do that.

Im not to sure about this.

It may just be my bad experiences with MMOs in the past, but I reckon that they have a sort of "retard attraction system". People seem to want to pay to piss people off.

Anyways,I think the story in KOTOR was really enjoyable but if you convert that to an MMO I don't think it will hold out. If it keeps the single player feature (with a component of multiplayer) then thats all well and good. Otherwise, no way.

I am actually really hoping that WoW and Age of Conan don't end up being the only good MMORPGS that come out and I DO want something that reminds me of Starwars Galaxies back when it was....Well decent, I can't say good. Still I am expectant to what this MMO brings you.

I dunno, I've always been skeptical about Star Wars Franchise MMOs. With your conventional MMO, some people want to be a fighter, some people want to be a mage, etc etc, but with Star Wars who would want to be anything other than Jedi (or their puppy kicking counterparts)?
All I want is to be a sexy twi'lek chick.

That's not so much to ask.
Is there such thing as a non sexy Twi'lek chick?

I gotta agree with this, I just hope you are right.

I would love another KOTOR, I loved the first two for awesome stories and insane accomplishment of ruling (or saving)the galaxy on your own. Will they be able to translate that to a MMO?

I'm sure the people who use to play SW Galaxie's back in it's former glory are excited that this has been announced.
I played SWG from launch day on for near a year, and all I can say is...

When the hell did that game *ever* have glory?

Of course not! There is no focus on the individual player in MMO's, because thousands are playing at the same time. MMO's are incapable of achieving the same connection between the player and the story that single player RPGs do. Thats because it has to cater to every other jackass Reven709er, DrizztRulez and MastaQueef69 running around.

I have images of it being a bit like that "Im spartacus!"

"I iz teh Revenz!" "Na I amz Revenzorz you faeg!" x100000000

If it does turn out to be an MMO, I wont buy it because I don't think MMO's are worth the kind of money that you have to pay to play the game.

Personally i prefer console gaming, cause it makes the player feel more involved in the story.
MMO's however give you this random story and basically tell you to start grinding.

I will be keeping an eye on this one. My preference would be for a new single player KotOR, but I'm curious to see what Bioware will do with their first foray into the massively-multiplayer world.

Geez, I'm terribly unimpressed with the replies in this thread. What happened to The Escapist? All but one failed to actually read the article.

Yes, if this is somehow a "WoW clone" I'd be terribly disappointed and no, I wouldn't purchase it. However, I don't see one little single piece of evidence supporting this theory. So why is everyone saying that?

Also, does everyone here think we've reached the boundaries that "massively multiplayer" can reach in terms of gameplay? What if they truly did something revolutionary with this title? Stop being so closed minded.

Maybe this is its own thread but--

Is it possible to make a MMO that isn't a grind-monster?
yes, see "EVE Online" you dont have to grind if you realy dont want to, you can just sit around and get on every 15mins-30 days and tell a new skill to train
