When I first installed it I got a "bink32.dll" problem. Okay, so I found a download for the file. Now I'm getting a "binksetvolume@12" message. Okay, now I'm stumped and I'm asking around what to do. Any solutions?

Did you try installing the game in compatibility mode? Just an idea. Also, right click on it and run it as an Administrator after you have set it to compatibility mode in the preferences.

"The procedure entry point _BinkSetVolume@12 could not be located in the dynamic library binkw32.dll."

I would uninstall completely. They before you reinstall right click on the install.exe and go into the prefs. Set it for compatibility mode as if it was running in XP. Save the prefs. Then once the prefs are set right click again on the install.exe and run it as an Admin. That is what I would try first.

Thats very shallow and pedantic of you sir.

Anyway, I got it to run alright on my Vista running comp, I just had to run it in compatability mode.I second the uninstall and run in compatability mode suggestion.

I don't get all the hate on Vista. I have been running it for awhile now and never had a problem with it (Once I got id of UAC of course). I have a dual-boot setup with XP/Vista, and Vista just seems better all round.

I rather doubt that. Any problems I have had with vista, compatability or otherwise, Have been easily fixed, either through updates, patches, new drivers, or general tinkering (mostly general tinkering). I don't get why people complain that vista is broken, I haven't had any major, oh my god I want to rip my hair out problems with it. I think people just like to moan about something or other.

The vista argument is bullshit. Vista runs just as few games as my XP did. The only difference that I see is that it's shinier and asks permission before opening a file more often. So don't tell me that a game can't be played because I have an updated system. I'm looking for someone who knows about gaming files or someone who has had this problem before and can tell me what they did to get it to work.

On other websites, people have claimed this same problem with legal copies, top of the line graphics, and an XP; this is an issue of Lucas Arts never adding the right files for their Old Republic games to start up.

Now can someone actually help me.

EDIT: The only reason I put the word Vista in the title is because I thought someone could actually help by knowing the programming.

Bink is a video codec used in games :
http://www.radgametools.com/bnkmain.htm

I have no idea if maybe XP had the codecs as standard or..if for some reason these codecs are not compatible with Vista..have you checked the game forums to see if anyone had similar issues?

Yeah, there were complaints from the .dll site that I got it from and a SW forum. The SW forum told the guy to contact someone, but I figured that the private information would be public by now.

Echoing some previous posts, I too don't entirely understand all of the hatred that gamers have towards Vista. (Note: I said gamers, I can't speak for other kinds of folks) I mean, yeah, I had to spend about 30 seconds finding out that I had to turn on compatibility mode and/or set the game to admin mode, but seriously, with all of the other tweaks that we generally have to make to get our games to run just right, who really cares? As an average user, Firefox works great and Windows Media Center is absolutely terrific. Plus, I like that it has many of Apple's cool features. If people like those features, why shouldn't Microsoft implement them?

Oh, back on topic, if you do the aforementioned compatibility mode check and set the game to admin mode, you should be fine for both KOTOR 1 & 2.
