L4D: AI Tardation?

This may be the wrong forum to whine to, given that it is in no way connected to Valve, but is anyone else noticing that he AI team mates on L4D have been going flat out mongoloid recently? They've been jumping into fire like they've got a bullet fetish and as far as I can tell the part of it that attempts to replicate player actioans has been replicating the griefers, sterring clear of the safe room before jumping off the edge to their doom, though then the OTHER AI sees fit to revive the Darwin Reject. This isn't helped by the fact that the AI are, well, teleporting. They're blinking from place to place, though "Place" never refers to anywhere useful, in fact it seem to defult to "Back thataway". Just want to know if I'm the only one being hit with this crap.

I haven't really noticed the AI retardation, but I swear that Bill hates me. Old bastard never revives me. I don't know why.

Louis, Francis and Zoey are fine. But Bill has it in for me.

I never noticed this, mostly because I always play w/ my friends. We all hate the AI, mostly for one reason: They never pick up explosives.

They don't, not that I've seen. Last I checked the AI Teammates deliberately didn't pick them up so they couldn't accidentally blow the rest of the survivors up.

I think the AI does the best it can, we had an odd glitch the other day where we were vs against only bots as survivors, and they actually worked a damn sight better together

The whole "don't shoot teammates" is definately one i can relate to. There have been so many times when i die and respawn in the safe house and just kill the AI before going on with just the real players

It would be helpful if they could pick up and USE explosives. Most of the time, I just hear a, "Pipe bomb over here!" and that's it. They aren't smart enough to pick it up and use it.

I have the occasional problem of a bot (usually Bill) getting stuck behind stuff. For example, in NM3, after going through the warehouse heading down to the sewers, Bill gets stuck behind a fence. I leave him behind, make it through two sewer tanks and a witch, get into the safe room, and nothing happens, because Bill is still idly humping that fence, and no hunters are doing what they love to do.

My greatest peeve with the AI is, during the final stretch to the rescue vehicle at the end of a campaign, when they decide to heal you. And you can't do anything but stand still and wait for them to be done before you can keep running, by which point a Tank has slapped you in the opposite direction.

I dont get it, personally I think Left 4 Dead has some of the best AI in a game I've seen so far, sure they can flip out on occassion and do something stupid, but most of the time they're as good as gold for me, aside from being bloody marksmen in versus.

Unlike Resident Evil 5, where if you're unfortunate enough to have to play campaign on your own, you get an AI partner. Sheva Alomar, AKA frustration bringer

"Oh look, that boss has just shown their generic weakspot, I shall shoot it, I just need to take aim, oh wait, but I can't do that because Sheva just ran directly in front of me, and she isn't going to move out of the way so I'll just move to the left while aiming, but wait, I can't do that because I can't move while aiming, so I'll have to stop aiming and move to the left and take aim over again, oh damn, the boss is no longer showing their weakspot, and Sheva didn't get any shots in because she casually blasts the armoured bits that do no damage whatsoever. Huh."

Way to increase the tension with these controls, Capcom.

But anyway, Left 4 Deads AI rox.

Yeah.

It completely ruins the game. The first day I played, it didn't even take 15 minutes before Louis was sprinting into a wall, trying to show me that there's ammo in the room past it...

I went inside, he wouldn't follow me. I continued on, he wouldn't follow me. A smoker spawn and dragged him off a bit, AI Zoey saved him, and he went straight back to that wall. I eventually just went on, and he would teleport next to me to keep up with me, I guess, like a Diablo II merc if they get stuck...

So he randomly popped up next to me while I was near the safehouse, and everyone went inside except for him, who tried to go back and show me that there's ammo in that room...And then he popped up on the little bridge by the safehouse, and started going back, and then a horde spawned...And getting to that ammo sure was more important that shooting any of the things killing him, so he almost got incapped...

I eventually got him in the safehouse by just walking to the other corner of the safehouse and then he teleported/spawned right next to me -inside- after about 30 seconds, in which I shot the hell out of him until he got incapped, and then I walked over by the safehouse door, waited for bill to revive him, and then closed it before he could leave.

It was horrifically bad.

Things like that happen all the time, which is yet another reason why I don't understand why the AI is so revolutionary. "OMG IT HEALS YOU" when it's basically an integer check of if your health is lower than X amount...

The only thing I've noticed is that they have the accuracy of GODS and never friendly-fire, even when I act like a tard and run in blindly. They're usually pretty good to me when it comes to standing still and fighting off a horde

Once I got smoker'd from the top of a building and was just dangling there, while the AI just stood below me.
I died, but not before I found out how much the AI hate me...
