L4D2: Guess/Create a Mutation!

Oh boy, so exciting.

So, as most of us know, and as some of us care, L4D2's first DLC, "The Passing" is scheduled to release tomorrow, Thursday, April 22. In a recent blog post, the developers announced the addition of Mutation Modes, where they will add unique modes to the game that change each week. I read that they have at least 20 mutations planned. To celebrate and make the anticipation even more grueling, I decided to create a thread in which we guess at what possible mutations to the game-play formula Valve might implement. This is that thread.
Now, since they used "Realism Versus" and "Chainsaw Massacre(?)" as examples, I assume that it's mostly just changing existing game-play elements around, and not really adding anything new, but that's fine. It's still hard to guess to what extent Valve might switch things up, but here are a few of my guesses.

I'm hoping that one of the mutations forces the survivors to use melee weapons only, but maybe increases their power a bit, and removes the shove cooldown. I dunno, that could be fun.

Maybe they'll also switch it up for the Special Infected players. Like, a mode where they can't use their main attacks, but their secondary claw attacks do 4x damage or something. They'd have to balance it, though, so the Charger isn't overpowered. That might get frustrating, but still...

Oh, perhaps a mutation where they switch the Survivor and Infected character models? That might take too much work on Valve's part, but it would be hilarious and awesome. Tank as Coach, Spitter as Rochelle, Smoker as Ellis, and I dunno, Hunter as Nick? Vice versa for the Infected side, except there's not enough models for all the Infected, so I guess that wouldn't work...

Anyway, feel free to post your ideas, or ignore this thread if the topic does not interest you.

how about all the special undead are replaced with massive hoards of regular zacks(zombies)
that would be awesome!

It will be interesting to see how they manage this. I like your idea about changing the character models, Rochelle as a hunter would scare the bejeebus out of me...

I had the idea of an annex idea but...I'll just explian. As usual the survivors have to get to the end of the level as usual but the surivors can go to multiple points spread through out the levels. Each point is a ring and every survivor has to get into the ring to take the spot which can't be taken back, lost, whatever you want to say. The survivors get say fifty points for each ring. That way people can't just rush to the end or they miss out on added points.

What do you think?

Man, I played a server like that for Swamp Fever where there were no SI only unending CI. And by unending I mean a constant, never ceasing river. It was... interesting.

I'd like to see some kind of random buffs/debuffs for Survivors and Infected in the game, which is kind of what I expected when I heard the word "Mutations". Like having the survivors being partially infected and therefore having partial super powers. That would be *awesome*.

I actually like that idea. Something like that would have been especially good in the original L4D, because it didn't really matter how far you got in the level, it was sort of all-or-nothing. So would those be necessary to complete the level, or just bonus points, cuz if they weren't necessary, you'd probably still get those guys who abandon your team and run ahead being stupid.

I can't even play this online right now, it's not workin' for me, so all I can do is anticipate and speculate while waiting.

Trying to think of all the possible numbers they could tweak, and I'm thinking it's likely that they'll do something involving the timers for either healing or helping your friends up. Maybe make one where healing each other is faster than healing yourself, or picking people up takes 1/2 as long, but when they get up they only have, say, 5 hp, so they could get incapped again quickly if they don't heal or take pills.

I say make hoards of survirors and you play a campaign in which you control the special infected and they have to get through to the end while survivors come out of the woodworks to try and kill you.

(Okay, this will be my last attempt to revive my dead first thread.)

Ah yes, similar to my idea? I mean, if it was like the survivors had guns and everything, the Infected would get owned pretty quickly. Maybe if the survivors only have melee weapons, and they do crappy damage... I dunno, it might be boring, unless the SI had guns, or super beefed up powers.
(Yeah, maybe you meant that as a joke, but I'm desperate to make my first thread succeed.
Alas, apparently it is a failure.)

"What if GodDirector was one of us?"-mode name
You get to be the director and choose where to spawn horde and special infected a.i. could be a 1vs4 game mode.

How about an enemy that lurks in the shadows that you can barely see unless your flashlight is right on it. Or Lickers from Resident Evil. Hell, make a Clown Tank... Or a Witch Tank. Call her the Mother of All Tanks.

LIEZZZZZ.

Tank: Francis
Spitter: Rochelle
Jockey: Ellis
Charger: Nick
Boomer: Coach
Hunter: Louis
Smoker: Bill
Witch: Zoey
(Possible due to the fact that the L4D1 models WILL be in the game files due to -da da da duh!- The Passing)

As for new mode, I call the Barfight. Melee and molotov cocktails only.

WIll never happen, Ai director would just hoarde all the SI and CI and tanks and when the survivors get to a difficult area just spawn them all.

World War Z. The Infected are slow, but can only be killed with headshots, and do insane amounts of damage. Nearly anything, like the sound of gunshots, will attract zombies to you.

I'd like to see a "body snatching" variant of SI. If it successfully kills a survivor, it takes over their corpse and, except for the way they move, is very difficult to tell apart from a survivor. If it kills them, the health bar doesn't drop to zero like usual, but just sits at very low. Not especially dangerous as a CPU, but if a human opponent manages to do it... Just imagine the possibilities!

I'd love to see one of them pop up as True Realism. Advanced Realism rule set with the following changes:
-Reloading expends the remains of the clip for clipped guns. Helps enforce less reload spam and more shotguns.
-No ammo piles, just guns strewn about the level. Along with reload change, you'll need to conserve ammo and switch to new weapons a lot. And each gun is for the person that grabbed it only.
-No defibs.
-Less SI overall to balance your relative weakness, no more than 2 up at a time with longer cooldowns.
-No respawning on map change. Additionally when all 4 are dead, return to lobby. >=D

It's be really goddam hard, but a true feat if you pull it off.

The Space Alien - You all die. Instantly. It's a stupid idea.

ReplicaSurvivor - Imitates one of the survivors, and waits for the perfect time to reveal itself.
