L4D2... Just a random thought while playing the L4D.

I was just playing a little Left 4 Dead over live on the 360*. Since I bought it today, I never really bothered checking the achievements before.
Anyway, I died at some point, and figured I'd check them.
Then I saw the Zombie Genocider achievement, famous for being one more kill than Capcom's Dead Rising achievement.

Maybe I'm thinking about it a bit too deeply here, causing me to see connections that aren't there yet. But all of a sudden, I thought of how 3 of the 4 character in L4D2 are black (I'm sorry, I don't refer to them as "African-American" due to me having a problem assuming all dark skinned people come from Africa), with a single white guy in there, possibly to avoid problems concerning racism.

Which is pretty much the opposite opposite of Capcom's last big zombie game: Resident Evil 5.
In which you played a white guy in Africa killing zombies (I'm still calling them zombies in that series, no matter what Capcom says).

Maybe I'm seeing things that aren't there, but keeping that in mind the big change in characters makes a lot more sense.

*My PC is terrible, I should probably upgrade it soon before it can't even run FireFox anymore. That's why I'm playing the 360 version. And yes, I know, Valve probably hates me as a console player.

Maybe they just felt it would fit better with the setting. Three of the four L4D 1 characters are white, and it's never really been a problem with anyone.

Looking at a picture of the L4D2 characters, only 2 of them appear to be colored, and the girl appears to be 50-50. Aside from that, what's your point?

You know, when writers make a black guy, a white guy, an aquamarine guy and an elf with a tendency to burn things, it's not always to avoid racism claims.

Sometimes it's just better for the story or that character.

Yeah, wasnt it a big black football coach, TF2's Scout, a crook from Miami Vice and a black girl with a depeche mode shirt (awesome)?

I'm happy that, for once, a game is just like, 'Oh, a handful of random, fairly believable characters." Its like they reached into the barrel of slightly more interesting people from Atlanta and went with 'em. More than one black person , especially in the South, is perfectly reasonable, and doesn't need to be some sort of statement.
What I'm worried about is their explainations as to why they can handle firearms so well. Only Zoey in L4D had a stupid reason, (her horror enthusiasm) and even then, for the sake of all the zombiepocalypse nerds out there, its kinda believable.

They live in America. Everyone in America knows how to fire a gun. That's a scientific fact [sup](tm)[/sup].

What was Louis' reason for knowing how to use guns in L4D1? I never really looked up on the story. There was zombiecide to commit.

i think they should just replace all the survivors with puppies. i would have so much more affection for the characters if they did that.

You're overthinking it, people are so concerned about race that they almost become reverse-racist, instead of thinking "OMG black guys" I take the South Park (the episode where they debate the flag) way out and all I see is 4 people.

They don't hate you, you're buying their stuff and frankly I hate the whole "Console people are braindead idiots and the PC gamers are the elite race." I play both and while I could say I prefer PC I still love my consoles.

It would have been cool if they played with the races and nationalities a little more, like they did with the characters in TF2. For example, have a black character, a German character, a Japanese character, and a Native character. Or something like that.

I dunno, maybe it'd be more interesting. With the exception of Coach, these new characters are coming off as kind of bland to me, based off what I've seen so far.

Native? Native of what?

If they had characters by nationalities, I'm afraid it would boil down to bland stereotypes that add nothing to the story.
