Why do publishers claim a release date that they can't make? It seems like I should automatically disregard the original release date of any game that I'm mildly interested in. This doesn't bother me, I'll get the game when I get the game, but what are they playing at?

They're just making deadlines so they have a schedule to work on I guess. Otherwise games would all be released on Valve Time at best, or just become vapourware at worst.
I never pay attention to release dates when they first announce them either, but they have to have some kind of target to go for I presume.
