I don't see whats so great/bad about that THING called 'lady' gaga.

If a man is classed as male and a lady is classed as female what does that make a hermaphrodite.

Guys, the woman is ridiculously talented.

If she did this version of things full time and went piano only you'd probably all call her a genius.
I'm glad someone posted that video.

You don't like her songs or the way he dresses? Fair enough, but you can't deny her talent.

Nice!

But yeah, I agree. She can't sing. Whenever she sings something, I can never understand what she's saying. Someone teach this woman proper diction. I had to learn the lyrics to "Poker Face" by watching that Whale Wars episode of South Park where Cartman is singing part of it. And then I had to facepalm over how stupid the lyrics were, so after you get done teaching Miss Gaga diction, teach her songwriting.
Or take the easy way out, and lock her in a tube and then fill said tube with extremely harsh acid. Sure, the turian council member will be pissed, but he hates you no matter what you do, so just go with it.

Oh, and I don't really give a rat's ass what she has between her legs either. Not sure why anyone would: unless you're going to sleep with her, it shouldn't matter.

Nope, because that still doesn't change how awful I find the lyrics to be.

Also, love, hate, or just don't care either way for Lady Gaga, this is hilarious:

Call me crazy but that video didn't really impress me. What's so special about her? Is it the piano playing, the singing? It sounds average to me. The only thing I give her credit for is writing her own songs, but then again her songs don't really do it for me either.
Could someone explain to me her talent? I'm genuinely curious.

That's an odd criticism.

Lots of amazing singers have strange diction when they sing, it makes them unique.

Ever listen to Louis Armstrong? James Brown? Opeth? Michael Jackson? Nina Simone?

Yeah, I can't understand her sometimes also. Maybe some props for writing songs, but on that same note, her songs are all from the same mould.
Outrageous clothes and influence? Honestly I wasn't aware that she is that "famous", Freddy Mercury wore better clothes, also Cher, Madonna. If anything, she's only a poor imitation.

Singing? Meh, average, to slightly trained, plus on the records anybody can sound decent these days and besides there's so much effects on the album version it's hard to tell who's singing what.
Heard that piano version of Pokerface before and only thing you can take from that is that it shows how shallow the song actually is and that she really can't change the song up a bit nor can she modulate her voice that much.

@Miracleofsound: please don't compare Lady Gaga to James Brown, Jackson or Armstrong.

She's just an attention whore. It seems like that's all she really cares about. She's like a physical manifestation of everything I hate about mainstream pop music. But then again, some of her music is pretty catchy. Nothing special, but it's pretty catchy.

While i do find her singing listenable and would not mind her taking a ride on my disco stick, she does dress like an escaped mental patient, but then again she does make out with girls which makes my disco stick happy....In summation decent music + ladies kissing = good. not that I'd go outta my way to listen to her, but dammit those beats is catchy. MO MO MO.

Yay music industry guy in a Lady Gaga thread!

Anyone who complains about Lady Gaga lacking talent, being a bad influence or otherwise being anything less than a completely fine and worthy pop singer is demonstratably wrong.

* She can sing better than most pop singers and could easily go toe-to-toe with opera singers on a theatrical stage if she had to
* Yes she dresses outrageously but in pop music who doesn't - the style has a decades-long tradition of outrageous dress sense
* She is a noted philanthropist and lives a generally healthy lifestyle, unlike a lot of other artists in her field
I just hate it when people say she is the next Freddie Mercury, she isn't anyware close to his level or for that matter talent.

In the light of the music industry, Lady Gaga is a breathe of fresh air. Whether you like or hate her music, at least she is doing something different unlike most artist that just fell flat or stuck to the same thing over and over.

There are some artist who use the same beat in every song.

Lady Gaga brings something exotic to the table. It's like a dish that looks appetizing, but you don't know what's in it.

Madonna was this racy when she first started and now Lady Gaga is like the new age madonna.

BTW, she is not a guy. If you seen some of the outfits she wears, there is no way she has junk under something so tight.

Also some might say she had "surgery" and again I digress...her bone and muscle structure is feminine not masculine. No amount of surgery can hide that fact. She is a female.

Apart from the "lifestyle" thing (Freddy was far less responsible), she is actually reasonably comparable with all the points listed above. They both have similar vocal range, songwriting smarts and ostentatious visual presentation. Obviously they both sound completely different, but I can certainly see why people draw that comparison and it does make sense.

There's nothing wrong with her. She's got some singing chops, her music is good for it's genre and she's better than most popular music, which is admittedly not THAT much of an accomplishment. My problems with her are two a simple 2 minor complaints:
1) The clothing. I mean seriously, I know you're going for shock, but what the fuck are you wearing?
2) She CLAIMS to have been musically inspired by David Bowie. A) I LOVE Bowie and B) You were nothing of the sort. You're music style is pop mixed with electronica, Bowie is glam rock. Get your musical inspiration straight.

She's pro'lly a great singer, but her current mainstream music is so bland, boring and unadventurous. Her music is being sold by the spectacle that is Lady Gaga rather that musical greatness.

I think Lady Gaga has brought a fresh and inspiring look and feel to pop culture. It was a matter of weeks until she hit number one in the charts. I think all but one of all of the songs she's released has been number one. It's kinda cute to see all of the fresh faces copying her style.

Don't get me wrong before Gaga I've never thought or even avoided listening to pop music. After her performance at the VMA's I've stuck by most of the things she's realise. I find her incredibly inspiring for my work.

Back to your question, I totally understand why some parents would be apposed to allowing their kids to listen to her. She's not exactly child friendly but then again I listen to the Spice Girls lyrics I used to listen to as a child and it's a little disturbing.

I see them to, I mean people saying her music writing skills are as good as Queen. (Like hell they are)
Well, that's highly subjective isn't it. I personally prefer listening to some of Queen's output than Lady Gaga, for sure, but I'd sure as hell rather listen to Bad Romance or Poker Face 100 times than anything off Queen's "Hot Space" album... I see no reason why Queen's songwriting is objectively better (and I'm a Queen fan), there's nothing you could point to on a Queen song and say "Lady Gaga could never do that if she tried", both artists are/were exceptionally talented and reared on music from a very young age, and it's early days for Lady Gaga's career, there's no telling what she'll sound like once she's got a Queen-sized discography behind her.

Bowie mixed pop with electronica quite frequently during the latter stages of his career. He's dabbled in electronica ever since Brian Eno worked with him on "Heroes".

Also let's not forget that dress that David Bowie wore on that album of his in 1970...

well to put it simple.

she acts like a whore and dresses like a retard.
parents don't consider that good influence.

and for anyone defending her not acting like a whore, go watch telephone or actually any of her clips.

1. "could easily go toe-to-toe with opera singers on a theatrical stage if she had to"

Unlikely, sir.

2. "the style has a decades-long tradition of outrageous dress sense"

Not to her idiotic extreme.

3. "lives a generally healthy lifestyle"

I rather doubt her mental health is very good.
1. You are wrong. She'll probably prove it one day by doing a duet with an opera singer, as Freddy Mercury did. Until then go and look at some Youtubes where she performs acoustically.

2. As someone in the industry, I can assure you that as long as you are getting noticed, there's no such thing as dressing "idiotically" in pop music. Period. The more outlandish and crazy, the better.

3. What are you basing that on? Probably nothing except that she wears weird clothes and sings music you don't happen to like.
