Lame Gimmicks

I just accidentally watched the opening for The T.V show Secret Girlfriend, a show I promised myself I would never watch. And apparently this isn't your regular shitty T.V show it's starring you!. By which it means sometimes the characters look into the camera. Terrible gimmick right ?
So I was wondering what gimmicky things been bugging you? It could be from a movie, game, T.V show, book, a sticker, food, whatever. What the latest gimmick pissing you off (or mildly annoying you)?

the internet is the biggest gimmick of all. i give it 3 more weeks.

O.T: yeah, that show was pretty stupid, so pretty much all those "starring you" things.(which i'm ure there are plenty of.)

Avatar, just listen to the commercials. I refuse to watch it just they could claim they can alter the way people make movies, no matter how good it is.

Is that really a gimmick?
Gimmick = Scam.

I'd say a scam is more deceptive than a gimmick. You're supposed to notice a gimmick (not as a gimmick of course but something positive) whereas a scam is supposed to go unnoticed as it tricks you into something.

Shaky camera Cloverfield, overly dark places(usually spannng the whole movie) pretty much every horror movie, Videogames with limited light sources to almost none good for survial horror bad for Fallout 3 and Borderlands.

I realize its supposed to set the tone but really you couldn't lighten it up with some clever lighting techniques or spcial non nightvision cameras. I want to see the action not outlines of it. This is actually more geared towards action movies then horror.
