LAN gaming

I dont know if this is the right place to ask but this is the only computer website I belong to that I could ask on. Me and my brothers play a lot of games on the lan on our computers. But on a lot of pre 1995 games my brothers computer wont connect to the lan games dispite the other 2 working fine.
We all have windows vista computers and wifi connections to the lan and we all have AVG as our antivirus. Can anyone think off a reason why 1 computer wont connect when we play 'Dungeon Keeper 2' or the origional C&C?

I've had a problem like that with Vista. Then I upgraded to Win7, and all of that went away. At least I'm pretty sure it did.

Unfortunatly the firewall is setup the same on all computers and is bypassed for each game on each computer. This computer finds any game we setup but as soon as they join it says connection failed. Not sure why this is. I agree Vista hates old games, should have seen the trouble it took to get the very origional C&C working. Well worth it though

Make absolutely sure the games are running as administrator. You could also try disabling your firewalls, though I'd suggest disconnecting from the internet before trying that.

Getting yourselves a cheap ethernet router to network via wire could be a solution too, as wireless sometimes throws up problems the game developers hadn't anticipated in the netcode.

Try starting the game as admin? Me and my boyfriend both use vista, and had no whatsoever problems playing Dc two (exept for the game being tediously boring that is)

Vista's probably the problem, my bro's computer can't play Doom3.

It depends on the game most of the time... for example: I have vista too, but I can't play Far Cry, while Jazz Jackrabbit works perfectly fine :/

You are both geniuses! Running as Admin has solved the problems with getting the origional C&C working. It hasnt solved Dungeon Keeper 2 but I think there may be other issues behind that though because some things dont look quite the same on it as they do on the other 2 computers
