Currently I'm sat in a bus station with a large suitcase which contains my pricey desktop computer, fearing muggers and people worh slegehammers. So far I've been on a very packed train, when I say packed I mean like Indian Trains packed, I've walked 2 miles through town dragging said suitcase to the bus station and I swear my burning legs are currently only held on by the skin and I'm having to wait half an hour before another bus comes which I can spend an hour on after which a 10 minute taxi ride until i arrive at my LANing destination.

Please share your LAN experiences. How many you've been to, where, troubles gone through to get there, cost, what games you play and most importantly, was it worth all the effort?

Mainly I'll just host a minecraft server on the local network and get all my housemates to play for a day (there's 5 of us who play). We get quite a lot done as we tend to work together...definitely more rewarding than singleplayer mode.

The only LAN parties I've been to have either been at my place, or at the gaming centre at Trocadero, Picadilly Circus.

The former tended to be better, largely because alcohol could be involved and really shitty music had to be tolerated at the latter, you had to pay for it, at the games always took ages to load (but the selection was really good and ultimately, it was more convenient...)

I Haven't had any in a long time but I used to have them at my apartment. It was almost exclusively Starcraft: Brood War. I sorta miss the days of gaming with other people around, LAN parties, and also the days of split screen console gaming. I rather enjoy having other people in the room with me. Playing online can be somewhat sterile.

Ive not been to a lan party in years, not since the old days of counter strike 1.5 and C&C Red Alert 2.

My mates wont do lan parties now, or anything else for that matter, as activity generally involves movement.

I know, movement, scary thought.

I've held a few for my mates as an overnight sort of marathon. The last one was quite a while ago, though. Someone managed to spill a drink (one of those weak vodka mixers) right on top of his tower. It was ok-ish but as the weeks went on it got slower and slower and it wouldn't stop making these distressed sounding sequences of beeps. He had to take it apart and sort it eventually.

On one before that, in the Summer, I ended up with my carpet covered in ant-killer powder, half a bottle of bubble bath and several custard cream biscuits all because one ant got in and everyone decided first to feed it, then to kill it and finally to wash the remains of their failure out of the carpet.

Alcohol for the average night: £30
Cost of new PC parts after alcohol related incident: £200
Waiting until someone falls asleep, drawing / sticking things onto his face and him going home like it in the morning: Priceless.
