I played a bit of DotA 2 during beta and found it amazingly fun. It does carry two big issues, imo, which drove me from it short before it finally launched.
1. As per this type of game it pretty much says "screw you" if you never played it or a game like it ever before. No real tutorial or solo learning part or anything. Just jump on board, pick something and let the kind and well mannered community of players teach you and guide you as you feed the other team.
Honestly, if you never played dota before, my advice is to really ready yourself to the idiotic insult factory that is the internet because you're going to suffer it head on.
2. After the initial learning period, once you have a grasp of what it is that you are supposed to be doing, I found that the game demanded too much uninterrupted time. An average match of dota 2 can easily take up 45 minutes to over 1 hour of focused time at least. And this is a game where missing a hand full of last shots can mean the game.
So that's why I let DotA 2 and its like off my radar, its too demanding really.
