Dutch. Of the languages I've come into contact with (c.f. French, German & Spanish) it seems like the easiest to pronounce (which is my major hang-up on learning another language) and I'd love to live in the Netherlands.

Russian would be good; a lot of similar words when you get past the Cyrillic alphabet. Although I've been to Russia and absolutely loved it, I wouldn't want to live there long-term as I value my civil rights.

Also: Romulan :p already some way there (for roleplaying purposes).

I have a lineage that traces back to both Irish and German. Therefore, I would like to know German.

Not only do I want to go back to te "old country" but also because if (or "when" if you're anti-American, I'm not for the record, I love my country) the American economy goes the rest of the way down the toilet, I could set up shop in Germany, which is the largest economy in the European Union, and only smaller in GNP than Japan and the US (based on purchasing power parity).

Irish Gaelic would not be so important to me, mainly because English is so widespread in Ireland, so I wouldn't have to worry about that so much when I go there. But it would be cool to speak a language that is so rare comapred to your well-emphasized Spanish and French in American schools.

Spanish, despite my last comment, would also be very helpful, since there are a lot of Hispanics in the US. Plus, I already had four years of it in school, so it wouldn't be to tought to learn more of it again.

Hebrew would also be very interesting to learn. I have Jewish friends and have wanted to go to Israel for a very long time.

Japanese or Madrian Chinese would be helpful, since Japan is second only to the US in terms of the economic scope. Mandrian Chinese is more common than Cantonese, and is not only spoken by the (People's Republic of) China, but is also spoken by Taiwan (the Republic of China). Both nations have powerful economies as well.

French is just so damn cool. Even if it's not an official language for many countries, a lot of people know it as a second language.

Latin would be good because I am Catholic and before the 1962 Latin Rite, the liturgy was read and spoken entirely in Latin. My grandfather was an altar boy in his youth, and he had to learn all the Latin responses. Plus, since it's a dead language, its not going to change and there is only one dialect.

Gaelic just because it's the language of Ireland and I heart my homeland.

Also Latin so I could do badass chanting.
That's what I'm talking about!

Japanese, German and Russian in that order.

I find German and Russian way more interesting (and sexy spoken by a hot woman), but Japanese for pretty much every reason everyone else has stated (would love to go back to Japan and actually be able to understand people this time) but also for the tech. I'm sick of waiting on some of the greatest tech to eventually come to America. I would rather have a color e-book reader that's out in Japan than the B&W crap that we have in the US, like the Kindle and the Sony Reader.

I can speak English, Czech, and a little Spanish already, but the ones I still want to learn are Greek, Japanese, and German. Oh, and Swahili, just for the heck of it.

Korean so I can meet my girlfriend's parents. That, or Chinese, because in twenty years they'll be running the world.

And no, I'm not a weeaboo, or even particularly interested in Asian culture...

Italian, I'v been studying it for 3 years but far from fluently speaking it. One of the magor problems with the classes are that your barely required speak the language, and 90% of all the work consists of hours of translating indevidual words. I'm twice as good at writing in italian then actualy speaking it. For example; if someone asked me quale la data di oggi?(what day is today?) I would stand there without a clue as how to respond. But if they wrote it on a peace of paper and handed it to me, I would automaticly know what it ment, and how to respond.

This really makes me look like an idiot when I meet someone who can speak the language, and I barely have a clue as to what they are saying.

I am attempting to learn Finnish currently. 95% of my favourite bands come from Finland and when I go there at the end of the year I'm aiming not to look like a complete moron asking everyone I see "Ymmärrättekö englantilainen?"

I have always wanted to learn the crazy tounge clicking language that they speak in African jungles. In school we had to watch an entire play spoken only in that language. I didn't understand any of it, but it was awesome.
