I just bought a new laptop recently and due to this and the release of Cataclysm, Ive chosen to get back into World of Warcraft, however a system built into my laptop is making it awkward to play.

When typing, the laptop automatically stops the mousepad to make it so that something else isnt clicked by accident, cancelling what was being typed. This means that when playing WoW I can control my character or I can move the camera which will make combat and manuevering my character difficult and slow.

I ask the Escapist if there is anyway I can turn this off or atleast get round it by using a mouse or something similar?

Check your Device Controller and check if there is any type of setting that can enable/disable that function. However, for a game like WOW it would really help you gameplay-wise to just buy a bluetooth/usb wireless mouse.

They should run you about $20 minimum though.

I was planning to buy a mouse but Im not sure if the problem will fix even then.

Should be your mouse settings, there will be an option to untick in there.
Call me a computer noob but I cant find anywhere which mentions mouse and device settings. Ive been looking in the control panel for this but I cant find it anywhere. Is there somewhere else I should look?

If you're using Windows go to Control Panel and look for either 'mouses and pointing devices' or a specific touchpad option. Some touchpads add their own tools.
I found an option for "Mouse" but I cannot find an option which will turn this off in any of the tabs. I think my last chance is to borrow a mouse and see if it will work normally like that. Thanks for the help though :D Its help me find another setting I wanted to turn off.

The setting should only concern the built-in touchpad, and while the settings for those can vary from model to model (although using windows, most laptops use the windows settings), you should be perfectly fine with a regular mouse (i.e., moving with WASD and looking with the mouse).

Anyways, good luck
