Laptop or Desktop?

Hello everyone

I recently bought a refurbished laptop from Lenovo and it does not seem to be working out too well. Despite having okay specs, it just can't handle the heat. This is kind of a huge issue because it has an AMD processor. It is going to become hot, whether over time or when I try to run multiple applications, and especially when I launch anything having to do with 3D (it presently can't handle Minecraft, owing to heat...). If SpeedFan and Core Temp are anything to go by, then the core cannot reasonably exceed a temp of 65 degrees C. I tried to look up the official maximum critical temperature, but I cannot find much of anything regarding the AMD Turion processor.

So, with these headaches in mind, as well as the fact that I have yet to receive a battery for the unit (it has been three weeks and I've contacted the company three times regarding the issue; the laptop is currently running off of the AC adapter), I'm starting to think that a laptop may not be the right fit for me.

My question is: will a desktop, placed in an area with sufficient space to release heat, resolve my thermal issues?
